His playcalling was predictable and Mcvay was in his head. Coming from the Mcvay coaching tree, it's apparent he's not as smart as his former teacher.

Which is a shame because one of the reasons he was initially hired was so Pete could try to get an insight into Mcvay's style. So much for that philosophy.

The play calling at the start of the game was perfectly fine. Geno looked in synch but when the injuries with the OTs started to occur that is when things went sideways. As a play caller Waldron has to realize you need to throw your offense a bone when they are put in a tough situation due to injuries and how badly the defense is playing.

Running the ball is not the sexy thing to do but it would have been the right thing to do. I mean this is pretty common for OC to run the ball even when they lose two OL. The Vikes vs Bucs game is a good example as they lost two OL at some point and still committed to the run. Which led to the play action passes that did fool the soft zone the Bucs were playing. And in that same game the Bucs were down an OL before the start of the game and shuffled four players out of position. They struggled against Flores bear fronts but Canales stuck with the run to keep the defense honest. It eventually paid off in the third quarter when the Bucs offense milked a huge chunk of the clock which also gave the Bucs defense a breather. And the Bucs defense in the 4th quarter looked fresh and ready to stop the Vikes offense when needed the most.

It was so surreal to watch the Vikes and Bucs play complimentary football aka Pete Ball. Both teams use an similar offensive scheme like the Hawks and Rams. And the Rams did the same thing by controlling the clock. Of the four teams only the Hawks didn't receive the memo about playing complimentary football and trying to control the clock.

I thought the play calling in the 1st half was pretty good. They adjusted in the 2nd half and we had no answer.
