They gave up our first round pick this year for a play making WR, because they can find probowl talent in everyother round. Besides Okung and Thomas, the first round has sucked balls for us since the early 00's.

Late first round was very loaded this year, actually. I like it about as much as either of our 1st rounders from 2010. Seriously.

Carpenter isn't a bust yet, and Irvin led all rookies in sacks and he's just scratching the surface. I'd put our 1st round record with this regime against anyone's.

But you are right- they will kill it in every other round. Especially in a deep draft like this one.

This regime has had four total 1st round picks. Two pro bowlers, an injured player and a pass rusher that led all rookies in sacks his first season. Sucks balls???

Sucks balls is out of whack but I can't say I'm heartsick we don't have a first rounder this year. Carpenter isn't a bust...yet. When healthy he's a pretty good run blocker. Although Cable doesn't seem to have trouble plugging anyone in to run block. Irvin may be just scratching the surface or he may be a pass rush specialist with a limited arsenal. Which is okay, but when the regime hits towering home run shots like Russell Wilson and Richard Sherman routinely in the later rounds, Carp and Irvin suffer by comparison. Thomas and Okung of course are what you expect out of first rounders.

It's just a sign of how good the front office is that if they draft a guy in the first like Irvin and he doesn't come in and immediately threaten to replace Clemons I feel kinda meh about the guy. Because they're pulling full time starters like KJ and Kam out of nowhere.

Well, one coulf argue, especially now, that the team is so well stocked with talent that they don't need 'home run' draft picks that become starters and wow the league in their rookie season. I'm pretty sure we would have improved on last season's win total by a couple of games without the home runs of Irvin and Wilson. As it worked out, both players did the most with limited opportunities. Irvin with the simple number of snaps he got, and Wilson with a slow unveiling of the playbook before he could show his stuff.

I frankly like that we don't need 'that one guy' every draft to make it all worth while. We're good enough that almost every pick we make is a developmental player. That way, when we do find gems like Wilson and Wagner who start early and do well it's doubly good. Meanwhile, the team is well positioned for when those second contracts come up. We have guys who have been with the team for a couple of years to step in and step up if we are unable to sign what we think of as key players. It's a long term strategy many have admired in other franchises around the league and I'm loving it.

My exact thoughts. Now they can actually get creative, Carroll has already said that it is going to be difficult for kids to make this team and even if they hit on two guys this year it will be a positive.

I have absolutely no concerns about money/cap issues. With an owner like Allen, this front office can get very creative in paying people while remaining under the annual cap.
