They wanted to get a pick before he was able to call his own shots, this was also a message to the rest of the team, deal or be in Cleveland or San Francisco :)

SF absolutely can be a defensive beast in 2 years.

Cleveland has maybe one strong defensive season the last decade.

Belicheck lives on the razor's edge.

Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't.

He's 2 plays from being 5 - 0 in Superbowls over the last 15 years. People are comparing him to Lombardi.

Alternatively, he's 3 plays from being 0 - 5 in Superbowls, and having people compare him to Marv Levy and Bud Grant.

This is a concept that needs to go....

You can't uncheck the boxes selectively in the past and expect the future to play out the same way.

Buffalo winning SB 25 isn't a guarantee they still go 1-3 in super bowls. Maybe they go 2-2, or miss some Bowls.

Scheme discipline matters.

This coupled with the fact that Hightower is also a UFA at the end of this year. The Pats were forced to pick and it looks like they chose Hightower.

Collins: "I want Vonn Miller Money"

Belichick: "What's that Jamie, you wanna play for the Browns?"

Imagine if he re-signs with the Pats next year for less than the 11m offered and has to miss what seems like at least another AFC championship game for the Pats? Probably.

Or he can get Von Miller money from the Browns and spend the rest of his career losing with a big bank account.

The Browns have a ridiculous amount of cap space, almost 50M last time I looked at overthecap.com, so if Collins plays well they'll offer him a gigantic contract, or franchise him.

Either way, no way in hell they give up a 3rd round pick without the intention of keeping him long term.

The article linked below suggests they moved Collins before events turned uglier.

Bunch of stuff about Jamie Collins former team in Super Bowls..

Your predictive skillz have been off lately. I'm pretty sure you are the fella that said the Niners would be good this year because of "wonder coach Chip" alone, and you kept reminding us of his 10 win seasons in Philly.
