Bronwer will be replacing to Kam? If Kam is still injured? Then he should bench because he was play too well!

No, Browner isn't replacing Kam as the starting SS. They are discussing Browner's position should he make the final 53 man roster.

I think we may perhaps be looking at this upside down. If you look at the bandit package photo, then, imagine it the same, with 3 down guys, Wagner for Tatupu, KJ for Lewis, move Kam up to Milloys spot, and sub Browner in behind for Kam.

An Avril, Bennet, Clark whatever should still generate pressure. Wags and KJ fill the holes. Kam busts/jams the TE, then hands him off to Browner who proceeds to mug the dude. Kam then looks to destroy anyone going short. Our other 4 DB guys just do their job. Situationaly, should work very well.

Actually I was thinking along this same line....if someone decides to go stupid, we have a better backup plan now.

That's interesting.

Seattle has generally avoided having specialist DBs in the past so this news is a pleasant surprise for me. Good call by Scotte, he predicted Browner would be a TE matchup guy.

If this holds true I like the Browner signing a lot more. Browner's size and speed compares pretty well to Kam.

I wonder if this means Seattle is getting back to the "big nickle" 3 safety defense like the one they had in 2010 and 2011. Given the current personnel, it would make a lot of sense.

I like Browner on the field.

Finally an answer to the cover three TE seam route blues and a big body to press cover the TEs and be a physical presence with size and length against them.

It's been a while coming as the DC's have been slow acknowledging the team has a vulnerable coverage issue against TEs running routes against the dee seams of the D. It's an answer to a problem they've now faced for almost 2 seasons.

I'm happy about this as otherwise our DBs are good generally in covering opposing receivers.

I am happy Browner is back and very interested to see this new role for him.

Something else to look forward to for the season. :0190l:

Dude, you've totally blown my mind. I spent most of the evening thinking about this. Are they planning on only rushing 3? That opens you up for a bunch of different coverages. You can even put Browner in a man on the TE and still play your base cover-3.

Or does Browner replace KJ? KJ has spent a few years now in that zone. It's tough to know when to carry the TE, where the mesh point is where you have to pass him off to Earl, and make sure you don't vacate your zone leaving the short middle wide open. A lot of that depends on Browner's football IQ and how quick of a study he could be.

It would be really awesome to see how often they rushed three vs. how often they rushed four when they had Milloy in that position. Remember that Lawyer's football acumen was off the charts, and it may have allowed them to do some things that they couldn't do with some other folks. It could be that we only see Browner in that kind of role only in very unique situations and particular games. I can't see us rushing three as any kind of base 3rd down defense. Just so many possibilities. I wanna see, I wanna see!!

I would love to see Browner make the team. It goes back to frustrating the receivers (TE's) at the line and hitting them hard after the catch. It's also about players that are willing to hit you in the mouth regardless of who you are or how intimidating you think you are. Remember when Browner grabbed hold of Sherm and told him to pull his head out after being star struck covering Fitzgerald?

He's a tone setter that can come off the bench and make an impact with only a few plays. Just don't leave him alone covering deep lol.

Not to highjack this into a Bandit defense thread, but I don't understand why Pete completely dropped the concept when it worked pretty well for him early here. One of the advantages teams have when they play the seahawks is that they pretty much know exactly what they are going to get from our D. Why not switch it up and bring back some 7 db sets where they are all wandering around the line and you have no idea where pressure is going to come from.

Easy answer is that the Seahawks defense became historically good from 2013 to 2014 and they didn't need to.

Linebackers got healthy

They drafted LB's more to Pete's taste, I believe. The bandit was Pete rolling out what best fit his personnel, IMO. That adaptability is what makes him so great.

I feel like the Browner signing is really just hedging our bets against another Kam injury. If he stays healthy, we can do big nickle. If Kam gets injured, Browner can play the enforcer without much of a dropoff.
