I tried to make this topic two months ago but unfortunately it was locked. At this point, Bevell's stubborn refusal to stay with the running game may have reached the point that it will precipitate some change.

We ran the ball 29 times in the SB and passed it 21. I know everyone is focused on that last call, but Bevell fed the beast this game.

In the Green Bay game we ran the ball 35 times and passed 29. Despite being behind most of the game.

I talked about this in another post. I thought Bevell called a very good game for the most part, but unfortunately his natural inclination to abandon the run came out at the most critical juncture.

Against Green Bay, we ran the ball just ten times in the first half, which was corrected as usual at half time when Cable could get involved. It was the running game that spurred our comeback.

The Rams/49ers OC searches have gone so well....

This. It can get much worse.

You need another option:

I voted Yes. Here's the thing: I don't mind our play calling but our route trees and passing game in general are ridiculously simplistic and easy to cover. We need a passing coordinator/specialist/consultant to work over the passing game.

Honestly, you could see it starting to work in the 2nd half. The run game was opening up the passing game. Wilson missed a couple of throws (which isn't Bevell's fault). I'd also like at least a couple of OLmen that can actually pass block, but that might be asking too much.

Overall, I like our blend of running, passing and Read Option. We also occasionally use trick plays, but don't over use them. Typically they're at the right time and fairlly low risk.

We should try to recruit Beilema, seemed like he and Wilson paired as well as peanut butter and chocolate.

The ownership for both the Rams and 49ers is disastrous and so is their overall offensive situation.

It's a very different situation in Seattle where we have the best running game in the league, a QB with the potential to rise to the top of the league, and a dominant defense that can put us in a position to win immediately. This has to be one of the most desirable jobs for an OC with great opportunity to become a HC candidate.

Finding a passing game coordinator to pair with Tom Cable would not be as difficult as some make it out to be. And you don't even necessarily have to fire Bevell, just shift the responsibility for play calling to someone who can be more consistent with the team's philosophy.
