What’s the process for signing PS players

We just sign Scarborough from the Jags PS.

Last year, we heard a team was interested in signing Moore, so we promoted him to the 53 before that happened.

That makes me wonder....how does this work? Did the Jags have the right to match our offer and sign him to their 53 before letting him go?

Yes. Plus when you sign a PS player he must go to the 53 for 3 weeks IIRC. So this might be why Simmons went on IR, to make space.

So, another part of the chess game is who do you keep on the 53? Who can you let go to the practice squad if they make it thru waiver wire where any team can poach him for his worth to that particular opponent? Do you keep a 53 guy on the team that can be a waste and thrown to the wolves or do you keep a full 53 available to function? remembering of course that you are gonna keep players unavailable for play every week on the Inactive list each game. Bits and pieces of what the coaching staff has to deal with every week...eh???

Yeah, it's one of the 'behind the scenes' things you have to think of as a HC/FO. It's more than just passing waivers, which is just the first hurdle. All practice squad players are one offer shy of being FAs and any team can try to poach them.

The way Article 33 Section 2 of the CBA reads, the Jags only get the chance to match/counter if Bo approched them before signing.

Section 2. Signing With Other Clubs:
(a) Any player under contract to a Club as a Practice Squad player shall be
completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club at any time during
the League Year, to serve as a player on any Club’s Active or Inactive List, and any Club
is completely free to negotiate and sign such a Player Contract with such player, without
penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between
Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period, except that such player
shall not be permitted to sign a Player Contract with another Club to serve as a Practice
Squad player while under contract as a Practice Squad player.
(b) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) above, a Practice Squad player may not
sign an NFL Player Contract with his Club’s next opponent later than 4:00pm, New
York time, on the sixth day preceding the game (except in bye weeks, when the prohibi-
tion commences on the tenth day preceding the game). When the current employer club
has a bye the weekend before the game against the Club signing the Practice Squad play-
er to an NFL Player Contract, such contract must be executed prior to 4:00pm, New
York time, on the 10th day preceding the game.

I don't think Bo gave them a heads up, considering Seattle is a playoff team and Jags aren't looking so hot this year.

An example.....

Defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo chose to remain on the Vikings’ practice squad rather than join the Eagles’ 53-player roster after Minnesota increased his pay, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports.

The Vikings raised Odenigbo’s salary to $28,235 per week, which is the same as he would have made on a minimum deal with the Eagles. The practice squad minimum is $7,600 a week.

Got this from the Packers board.

Yeah, it's a FA situation, so unltimately the player and his agent has to accept the new offer and sign it. If he chooses not to, not much the acquiring team can do.

Bo was given the option of going to the Jag roster and he chose Seattle. Nice. Will be another nice addition to training camp battle next year.
