Was benched for both Collins AND Prosise? Bad call, imo.

I thought this was really odd myself. Especially giving the rookie his first significant time in a big game, on the road, against a defense like Arizona.

I can't say I was real impressed by Prosise, but it was his first start.

It feels like we drafted Prosise to be Spiller, but we have Spiller on the team now.

As a Saints fan, I have seen him be a healthy scratch for the better part of a year. He is like fools gold. I hope he turns it around for you guys (thought not this week obviously), but he is the biggest tease.

I think we need to get some of the other running backs some reps. Therefore, give them options early in the year to see how they perform. This was one of them times and their defense was pretty much prepared for our run game. But you have to start somewhere, and this was a great starting point. Now if one goes down, we have runners that have been in the situation with the hardest defenders out there. Need to build on that concept and that will be done in the practice field this week. 7 weeks in on a 17 week season with the bye gone, I am ok with that.

Prosise needed to get into a game which will help him going forward. Spiller was initially brought in because of Prosise's injury.

I would've much rather have seen them deactivate Collins and have Prosise replace him to get those reps while still keeping Spiller on as the 3rd down back. Granted Spiller hasn't been lights out, he still has been pretty effective. Just seems like rolling with two rookies as backups to Christine McStumble is pretty risky.

CJ Spiller would of given us a better returner since Lockett is cleary still hurt. I think he would of been a much better threat as a 3rd down option.

Its a good discussion but it wouldn't have been a factor in this game.

I like Spiller and what he brings-he looked great his first game with us. I'm not sure if they're evaluating Prosise or if they're really keen on him being our regular 3rd down back. If it's truly a competition for the remainder of the season, I'm curious who gets the nod for New Orleans.

As to Collins...it was nice he got his debut TD recently, but bringing him in last night in that situation completely telegraphed to Arizona we were going to run up the gut with him. And the results were what they've been all year with him-not much. Collins seems like the odd man out here.

I am pretty on the record about not being that excited about Collins but if Collins can be a guy that gets you 2 on a 3rd and 2, we need him.

3rd and 3, 3rd and 2, even 3rd and 1 seem to be killing us. I don't need or want him to try for 4 or 5. Just Ron Dayne that damn thing forward for 2, or 3 if needed.

If he does that, he should have a home here.

Procise must be like Barry Sanders in practice because he keeps getting chances even though he is clearly a) brittle and b) sucks. Whatever injuries Spiller has, I am betting he is still a better bet than Spiller.

Not playing Spiller probably hurt us badly, because I think he catches and makes a few YAC from those receptions. At least enough to keep the defense off our QB as much as they were.

I wanted to keep Pope but Spiller is basically doing what I was hoping Pope would, covering for us when Michael needs a spell and hopefully being a ST returner because #16 is clearly still hurt.

Spiller and Collins are having similar issues. We can argue about what they are but Rawls wasn't lighting it up either. With this offense as a RB you had better be able to get your own yards. That is often the way it was with Lynch. Of all the RBs on the team the only one that is having any success is Michael.

IMO a player like Collins could have success in another system just as Spencer Ware has done.

Maybe everyone knows this but I couldn't tell by the way the discussion was continuing to go. Spiller was inactive Sunday because of a broken hand.

I can't find a word anywhere on Twitter or via google search about Spiller having a broken hand. Where did you hear/find that info?

I can't debate on the fact whether or not Procise is brittle, time will tell, but what I can debate is the fact that he does in fact not suck. Curious as to how you came to the conclusion? Plus this highlighted sentence makes no sense to me?

My take:

Seattle is going to lose a back when Rawls returns. It doesn't make sense to have a redundant 3rd down back. And we're not cutting Procise to keep Spiller.

It absolutely makes sense to get Procise in there and up to speed. Spiller is a redundant option. We're going to keep Rawls/Michael with Collins as inactive. Not because he's a rook and Spiller is a vet. But because if Rawls or Michael goes down, we need that 3rd option (we learned that the hard way last year -- which prompted 3 backs in the draft to begin with). We will not allow us to go down the Dujuan Harris road again.

Spiller will almost assuredly be available if Procise strains a whatever down the road. If not -- we'll simply go without a 3rd down specialist and use a bellcow back for the duty.

EDIT: I would not be surprised to see us play Spiller this week. Pete is usually very good at rewarding guys and featuring guys that both parties know will be cut soon. It's part of the genius and method that Pete instills and is very much part of the reason he gets the lion's share of free agents that he pursues. Pete is a career conduit. Even if you're a short term player -- he's proven he'll help you sustain your career elsewhere in this league. That resonates intensely with UFA/UDFAs and their agents..

Prosise and Collins are plodders -- the future of the team in years to come should not be dependent on these guys.
