The Eagles thought enough of him as an edge pass rusher to spend a first on his athleticism (6'3", 251lbs, 4.6 40, >10' broad jump, 35" vertical). The knocks against him were primarily that he didn't have a plan B when speed failed and he had a ways to go against the run.
Regardless, he earned his $1m with us last year and they liked what they saw enough to bring him back. I'll bet we will be happy about it if he earns the full $2.7m.
I'm happy to see this player re-upped.
He flashed at times laast season and needs better coaching to improve, he has physical talent. With luck and great DLine gap discipline the D will be stronger this season up front if some further Dline help shows up.
I did a cutup for Marcus Smith back in week 12 when he had 30 snaps on defense. Most of his action came in passing situations early at 5/7 tech. He played some 3 tech mostly in the second half and 1 tech at the end in garbage time after Jefferson went down.
Good deal!! We needed him back badly. With little draft capital this year, and not a deep position in the draft. Hope he can come on like Clemons did for us.
There were some who thought Marcus Smith flashed and then faded a bit last year. Perhaps his latest tweet sheds a little light on that perspective............ [tweet]https://twitter.com/MarcusSmithII/status/978310817996296192[/tweet]
