Am I the only one who's actually kind of happy about all this?

-Browner wasn't going to play the rest of the regular season anyway, but despite that he would have burdened our roster in the meantime by taking up a roster spot. By going on the suspension list, he frees up a roster spot we wouldn't have had otherwise. For the regular season at least, this suspension is actually quite convenient for Seattle, because the team was looking at some tough roster choices to find a guy for Thurmond this week. The timing of this news couldn't be any better for Seattle.

-Sure, we lose him in the postseason, but Thurmond and Maxwell are comparable contributors at this point, so I'm not too worried about the dropoff. Seattle was 4-0 without Browner last season.

-Until now, I figured there was zero chance Browner would play for Seattle in 2014. This suspension absolutely destroys his market value, and whichever team that signs him will be doing it on a bargain deal. Guess who's the hardest working bargain hunter in the NFL? John Schneider. Remember how Leroy Hill kept destroying his market value because of weed? That kept him a career Seahawk, ironically enough. We might see the same situation with Browner. The only teams that are going to go after him are bargain hunters with the kind of depth to make his November arrival palatable. How many other teams can say that besides Seattle? And you know that if the money is close, he's obviously be staying.

There is no way right now that I can be this positive.......... :(

Seahawks could win the SB, and the sonics come back all at one time and you'd still be pessimistic ;)

...And you can save me the "I'd lose my job if I failed a drug test" crap that people were spewing the other day in the Thurmond thread...
And in point of fact, there's no legitimate reason why anyone anywhere should ever lose a job because of off-hour marijuana use, unless there's provable impairment on the job. It really is that simple. I'd even go out on a limb and suggest that marijuana prohibition had done more damage to our national "psyche" than anything since Jim Crow. The level of hypocrisy and double-think required to maintain the prohibition regime is the kind of thing that unmakes otherwise sane minds.

I agree with this and I don't even smoke.

Just got home and damn this really hurts. So it's confirmed that it will be a 1 year suspension for substance abuse?

Extremely disappointing.

Also, at least this happened now. We have 5 more weeks and by the time the playoffs roll around at least our corners will have played a few games and not be thrown in there without any game experience

One thing I got pissed about was Thurmonds tweets today. Paraphrasing: "I am disappointed with myself and "I" am going to have to deal with it". No, you son of a bitch, WE have to deal with you not being back there helping us get to the freakin' Super Bowl with this RARE combination of talent you selfish bastard! Not even a thought of how IMPORTANT this season is to us and every Seahawks fan out there! :229031_banghead: God that drives me CRAZY! Same with you... "Brandon"!

You left the rest out BlueThunder where he yelled at the fans. Thurmond is garbage.

I didn't expect Browner to be resigned but I was hoping we'd get a nice compensation pick out of the deal. So much for that. In a way I kind of feel bad for him screwing up his one shot at a decent contract after making it back from the CFL. Oh well, he made some bad decisions.

You can take the guy out of the hood but you cant take the hood out of the guy.

No, smoking marijuana does not make you a gangster. But losing sight of a superbowl, team goals and personal finances is really dumb.

I'd be very curious to know exactly why these guys are failing the drug tests when plenty of players around the league smoke and don't. Are they being stupid in terms of when they smoke in conjunction with the testing? I know that the NFL and NBA have it where players have a relatively decent idea of when they are gonna be tested and when they're in the clear? Were Browner and Thurmond just stupid and reckless about it? Or did they screw up in attempts to mask their samples? There's a ton of ways you can pass a drug test with not much notice. I know some guys i work with who are always ready if need be. Who was the NFL player a few years back who got busted for using the Whizzinator? Anyway, there's way these guys get around the tests. Is it simply a matter of our guys not being good enough at it? Sounds silly and a joke. But it's a legit question. The fact is a very high portion of pro athletes (NFL & NBA especially) smoke weed. And you don't hear about countless failed tests for weed.

Interesting to ponder. But in the grand scheme. The why's of it don't matter in terms of the Hawks. They messed up and let their teammates down. Shame on them. Next man up.
