Lol. Barton is a great guy I wish nothing but the best for him but how can you miss the guy on the field when it couldn't really have gotten any worse?

I'm sure the coaches are going to hate not having a dude consistantly wash himself out of plays.

F×#$ that loser.

I actually blame the DL more than our LBs. Cody Barton is a quality LB if he's used correctly. He's good in zone coverages and can run through the trash and find the ball carrier. What he absolutely sucks at is man-to-man coverage and getting off of blocks. Once an OL got their hands on him it was game over. If the Commanders keep him in zone coverage and their DL can protect him (something our DL absolutely sucked at) he should be a quality LB for them.

Blair, Barton, Lano Hill, Tedric Thompson, Amadi, and BBK... we sure have missed out on a lot of Safeties and LBs.
Just googled some:

Blair, 2nd round 47th, currently out of the league.
Barton, 3rd round 88th, currently on one year deal with DC
Lano Hill, 3rd round 95th, released by USFL
Tedric Thompson, 4th round 111th, Cleveland Browns?
Amadi, 4th round 132th, NO Saints.
BBK, 5th round 142th, currently out of the league.

Quite sad.

Our safeties will miss the extra stats they got, cleaning up his missed tackles.

Let's get this started. The Hawks will miss Cody Barton like...

... the vast majority of the fanbase misses Me3.

Four of those were from the 2019 draft, and Hill and Thompson were from the 2017 draft. Just horrible. That was an ugly stretch of drafting, from 2017 to 2021, 5 drafts that didn't bring a lot of solid, core players to the team.

In the 2017 draft we had 2 second-round picks and 4 third-round picks, and not much to show for it except Shaquill Griffin.

I still think Barton is better than he looked last year and that Bump isn't crazy. The entire defense was just out of sync last year and all of it started up front.

Barton was a solid special teams contributor. That’s worth something.

But it’s not the same thing as a starting LBer.

He'll always get the Weirdo Whipping Boy treatment, but those who keyed in know that the "worst player ever" talk is outside the realm of sanity. Little soft, little too eager to run into blocks, but worst ever? Not even remotely. He wasn't even the worst LB on the team with Muse playing.

Telling that Ron Rivera, noted LB guru, snapped him up immediately in the first wave of free agency. He can do some tough things in coverage.

Just googled some:

Blair, 2nd round 47th, currently out of the league. Ken Norton Jr. (out of the league)
Barton, 3rd round 88th, currently on one year deal with DC Ken Norton Jr. (OOL)
Lano Hill, 3rd round 95th, released by USFL Kris Richard (OOL)
Tedric Thompson, 4th round 111th, Cleveland Browns? Kris Richard (OOL)
Amadi, 4th round 132th, NO Saints. KNJ (OOL)
BBK, 5th round 142th, currently out of the league. KNJ (OOL)

Quite sad.
I have been theorizing that Carroll gave too much input to his coaches into the draft selections. It was obviously a huge mistake and that only after getting rid of his friend KNJ did he start taking control of the draft selections again. Hurtt obviously has some input, but he will have to earn Carroll's trust to get as much input as KNJ and Richard had. Hopefully Carroll retires before that happen as I don't trust Hurtt much at all.

Barton's a good depth player, and great on special teams.

So yeah it's not like there isn't a place on teams like the Commanders for him. But he's a bottom tier starter, as we saw for a couple years. Decent enough lateral quickness, and OK in coverage.......but absolutely horrific in gap assignment and shedding blocks to get to the point of attack.

Having said all this, Bumpus isn't wrong if 1. Devin Bush is a bust 2. Brooks doesn't come back 100% from his injury.

Then yeah, there's a gaping hole at LILB. But IMO in the Hawk's scheme, Bush should do well enough for the first month giving Brooks plenty of time to heal up.
