The 'weird' take is comparing what they did to purchasing insurance and then undercutting your own analogy by saying they didn't give Cousins that massive contract hoping to win anyway.

You don't pay the same amount in insurance that you do for the thing you're insuring. (And yes, if you did pay that, you wasted your money.) That's what Atlanta did here. They paid Kirk like he is the future of the franchise and then spent a fortune in draft capital on Penix like he is the future of the franchise.

That's not getting insurance. That's spending a fortune on a car and then leasing another to put in your garage in case the car you just bought breaks down.
You might want to talk to Jets fans about what 'paying big money to an aging QB and no backup plan for when he goes down' looks like.

Signing Cousins seems more about sating fans in Atlanta so they can keep selling tickets. If Cousins does that, even when he flames out in the playoffs repeatedly - it served its purpose. But you still needed a QB in the wings because aging recently injured QBs tend to get injured again more often.

Also eventually Atlanta would like to NOT flame out in the playoffs. So they have to draft QBs hoping they find one that won't, since Cousins tends to flame out in the playoffs.
Even if you draft QBs 4 years in a row, it's worth it when you can hit on a good one. Especially one that lasts 10+ years.
Talk to the Browns about how important a QB is. Or the Bengals.

Weirdly, some people still pretend Cousins isn't a ridiculous playoff liability here. Cousins is getting paid to do well in the regular season to keep fan interest.
Cousins isn't 'the QB of the future'. He's the QB of the next 2-3 years. Whether Penix works out for them or not. Because if Penix doesn't, they have to draft another QB.

You talk like he has a Russell Wilson type playoff performances where he was the direct result they lost. His playoff stats don't even come close to telling that story. If anything, his line giving up a lot of sacks muliple times seems to be the major problem.

Cousins is being an unreasonable little bitch. He's 35 coming off of a season ending injury. to expect a team not to draft at QB is just plain stupid, you're a rent a player, know your place and shut your whore mouth. Always liked the guy but he needs to STFU and play.

Thats weird. Let's look at his best team, the Division winning Vikings with at least 12 wins.
You implied it was the OL.

You sure it wasn't a 3 yd checkdown on 4th and 8 that lost the game for them?

The problem likely wasn't the line. More that Cousins shrinks in the playoffs.

(BTW Daniel EFFING Jones outplayed Cousins in that playoff game. The easier solution to this whole thing is to look up what the Vikings fans were saying about Cousins after that game. He wasn't great according to them.)

So, you're basing your opinion on his 31 of 39 for 79% completion percentage, with two touchdowns and no picks and ran for another touchdown performance? That is shrinking in the playoffs? In a game where the Vikings defense only stopped the Giants on two drives when they were trying to score, and it was Cousins fault? Laughable.

At least in a couple of his games he was sacked six times each, so a lot of pressure and he didn't have great games (which is where my OL comment came from, because no one would look at the stat line I posted above from the game you are referencing and think he had a bad game), but only one of his playoff games, did he absolutely suck. That was in 2013 against the LOB after we took out RG3 and Cousins had to come in cold against one of the most dominant defenses in the history of football.

That Vikings team that year won a lot of close games and overachieved I think. They came down to earth last season and honestly Cousins needs a running game to thrive.

Falcons do have a pair of stud RBs but that OL I do not trust to hold up. Same concern I would have with Penix back there at QB.

The NFCS defensive front sevens are brutal and they will come after Cousins snap after snap. There isn't a Justin Jefferson, Addison or Cook to bail him out.

That means that London, Robinson and Pitts have to ascend and help out Cousins. Mooney, Hodge, Moore and McCloud are just slot, utility and auxiliary players not really players to lean on.

IMO, no saga, no drama.

Just a situation.

Cousins can start and play. Penix can learn

He may play soon; he may play later.

Smart move the the Falcons, IMO.
