Cumulative future dead cap generated by void years introduced by reported 2021 contracts.

Ethan Pocic ........................ $1,000,000
Chris Carson ...................... $1,500,000
Gerald Everett .................... $2,000,000
Benson Mayowa ................ $1,500,000
Cedric Ogbuehi .................. $0,350,000
----------------------------------------------------
Total to date ....................... $6,350,000

As of this morning, OTC currently lists the Seahawks as ($648,013) over the cap.

Given that a couple of contracts have yet to be included in OTA's calculation and that the Carlos Dunlap and Al Woods contracts have yet to be turned in .............. another required contract adjustment or extension is on the way. Lets just hope it is news about a player extension and not a cap casualty.

Cedric Ogbuehi's addition bumped this morning OTC number from ($648,013) over the cap to ($1,781,763) over the cap.

Big bump on it's way to account for the Dunlap paperwork turned in during the last hour or so.

EDIT: Also being reported 3/30 ..................

Update/Correction: Add Kerry Hyder's $850,000 to that list for a total of $7.2M.

By year, it's a total of $3.35M in 2022 and another $3.85M in 2023... very manageable.

This afternoon, OTC is showing Seattle at $3.743M under the cap.

Carlos Dunlap .................... $8,400,000*

* $4.2 Mil in 2023 + $2.8 Mil in 2024 + $1.4 Mil in 2025 = $8.4 Mil
** Total figure is spread out over the next 4 years.

OTA's cap space figure is $1,797,237 as of this morning. That figure cap space figure doesn't reflect the new Tyler Locket contract as of yet.

Jville - I believe that you're overstating the cost of the voidable years in Dunlap's 2-year extension.

I believe that it is only $4.2M that comes due in 2023. Yes, his signing bonus was spread over 2024 and 2025 as well but the total cost of the voidable years ($1.4M/year) comes due in 2023.

If I am correct, that makes the new total cost at $11.4M. 2022 stays at $3.35M and 2024 is now at $8.05M.

Thanks for posting. My understanding is the new contract provides for 2 years followed by 3 void years ......

I'm seeing 3 void years consisting of 2023, 2024 and 2025. I'm using OTA's numbers and presentation of details available here >>> [urltargetblank]https://overthecap.com/player/carlos-dunlap/168/[/urltargetblank]

As am I.

The only voidable year that has a cap number (other than $0) is 2023. And that number, $4.2M, is the sum of $1.4M/year for three years. The voidable years total of $4.2M comes due in 2023. There's no additional cost in 2024 and 2025. I'm fairly certain that I'm right.

Here's another check... add up the cap hits for 2021, 2022 and 2023... and they total $13.6M, which is the total value of the contract extension mentioned in the first line of the embedded tweet.

Man, I thought JS did phenomenal in retaining Carson, Mayowa, signing Hyder, trading for and extending Jackson to friendly deals that fit our cap situation and arguably under market value. However, Dunlap’s true cap numbers at 2 years, 13.6 (6.8 apy) going from 1 yr, 14m to a cap charge under 3m is under appreciated genius.

Seahawks off-season have literally gone from trying to navigate a desert through a sandstorm to finding an oasis of possibility to retain its roster both short-term and long-term.

If Seahawks do find post-season success in 2021, how does JS finally not deserve GMOTY?

Because you have the Cards and Rams signing bigger names.

Thanks for the update. Love these collaborative postings.

Cap Costs assigned to new Tyler Lockett contract ......

2021 $9,250,000
2022 $10,050,000
2023 $16,750,000
2024 $23,950,000
2025 $23,950,000

Very accommodating numbers. :2thumbs:

Feel free to tell those that freak out over the numbers that the new TV money begins to kick in 2023.

And to those that don't like old people, inform them that Steve Largent played to age 35.

................................................................................................................................
EDIT: ................................
Current offensive cap number ................ $96,724,920
Current defensive cap number ............... $68,706,121

With Al Woods officially now in the fold, overthecap.com is showing the Hawks at $5.865 under the cap.

Could we be inching towards a KJ signing? Maybe another move or two could make it a possibility.

KJ was a no go for Dallas, possible he is back, the market for him isn't large unless they have an emergency situation at his age and chronic past knee issues.

So, as of right now, that’s it. $324,581 is all the salary cap space that is needed for the team to sign its draft picks. Obviously, the Hawks could add more draft picks in the time between now and when the draft starts later in April. However, with the three picks the Seahawks hold set to put the 51st largest cap hit for the team to $850,000, any draft pick the team adds after Round 4, Pick 116, which is set to carry a cap hit of approximately $849,573, would have no impact on the salary cap picture for the team during the offseason.

Easy to read article on amount of cap room needed to sign drafted rookies >>> [urltargetblank]https://www.fieldgulls.com/2021/4/9/22375329/how-much-cap-space-seattle-seahawks-need-2021-draft-picks-jamal-adams-trade-minimal-net-difference[/urltargetblank]

I have difficulty seeing how this argument is anything besides the basic discounting assertion that stuff is more valuable now than in the future. Do you disagree with any of the following statements?

1. Level of talent is determined by spending efficiency under a fixed salary cap.
2. Spending efficiency only matters in relation to other teams.
3. Future cap increases that benefit all teams equally do not affect relative spending efficiency between teams.

Or to put it more simply, if team A borrows $15m more from next year than team B, then it doesn't matter if the cap goes up by $15m. Team A will still have $15m less talent the following year than team B does.

If I'm not mistaken, the quote came out of a Tyler Lockett thread. I would call my remark a cash flow statement as it relates to the Seahawks future cap projections. If revenues are going up, then the CBA mandates an increase in payroll costs. That's all I was saying with that statement.

I would note in passing that no team can borrow from a future cap year. What they do instead is defer cap costs to future years thru contract restructures. With regards to future dead cap concerns, the rule of thumb that I recall is that it needs to be held down to 10% or less of the cap in any given year.
