Kenneth Arthur, who used to write for Field Gulls, now writes for the Rams site, Turfshow Times. Unfortunately, he hasn't gotten any better at covering football and writes today that the 49ers are not as good as they seem and that the Rams are "closing the gap." The problem is that he completely forgets about the team he used to cover, the Seahawks.

That was among the more painful reads in recent memory.

I like the part where he sets Purdy aside to discuss the backup QBs as if ANY contender out there is having drama from backups that would derail the season.

Then he essentially says Purdy has sucked in camp. He hasn't. He's played exclusively against the NFL #1 ranked D last year (he only practices against the 1s) and has been better than he was last year in camp.

Most importantly tho...ITS PRACTICE. I can't stress this one enough. Stats should never be looked at in ANY camp environment. You don't have context. Player may be playing poorly. Player may be trying to see if he can squeeze a pass in on a specific route. Offense may be experimenting with a play. Defense may be sitting on routes because they play that offense every single day and know what's coming.

Point being...we need to stop with looking so much at practice reps as being indicative of something.

Moreover...the Rams lost ALOT of guys this year. Not sure how that equates to "closing the gap".
