Clearly. 3rd Round QBs are a waste. Tell that to our future HOF 3rd round QB.
That was 12 years ago and was still the last franchise QB found in the third round. Since Joe Montana 45 years ago, Russ is the only third-round QB to make an All-Pro team and the only one to make more than one Pro Bowl for the team that drafted them. More recently, the third round has been seeing guys like Malik Willis, Desmond Ridder, and Matt Corral.

Russ was the anomaly of anomalies.

Christian Haynes G Connecticut
OVR60
POS1 / 10
Pick Grade :Elite
An elite athlete for the guard position, Haynes has the nastiness to be a solid pull blocker in a gap scheme but really thrives in wide zone, where he posted an 89.2 run-blocking grade in 2023. Haynes is also solid as a pass blocker and should push for a starting gig from day one in Ryan Grubb’s offense.

Finally! Drafting some interior bad-asses on both sides of the ball early instead of trying to fill these positions with mid to late round projects. This is such an Anti-Pete draft!
We used ten draft picks in rounds 1-3 on interior linemen while Pete was here.

It's possible to praise the current regime without ripping on the last one.

Yeah, but most of that was in the first 3 or 4 drafts. It's been a long drought.

We're missing a second rounder in this draft because Pete spent it on an interior lineman.

Oh wait, Williams has been good, so we're probably crediting Schneider for that trade.

Yeah, that's part of this draft. Before this draft this team hasn't spent much high draft capital on interior oline and dline in a long time. I believe that is a true statement.
