The Seahawks claimed two players off waivers on Tuesday in defensive end Darryl Johnson and cornerback Isaiah Dunn. Johnson was waived by the Carolina Panthers while Dunn was waived by the New York Jets.

• The Seahawks will reportedly re-sign nickel cornerback Justin Coleman to the 53-man roster. The team must clear one more roster spot for Coleman, and a likely outcome is placing 2019 first-round defensive lineman L.J. Collier on injured reserve to start the year. Collier has been dealing with an elbow injury.

As for Johnson, he broke into the league with the Bills as an seventh-round pick out of North Carolina A&T in 2019.

In two seasons with Buffalo, he registered 29 tackles, 2.0 sacks, and five quarterback hits. He appeared in three games with Carolina last season and ultimately was released on Tuesday.

At 6-foot-6, 253 pounds, Johnson split time at defensive end and outside linebacker in his first three NFL seasons.

He likely will be given a look as an outside linebacker in Seattle's 3-4 scheme with fifth-round pick Tyreke Smith landing on season-ending injured reserve and Alton Robinson nursing a PCL sprain in his knee.

3 things to know about defensive end Darryl Johnson

1. Dominated MEAC

Johnson dominated opposing offensive lines and quarterbacks in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference this past season, culminating in being named the Defensive Player of the Year.

In 12 games, Johnson had 55 total tackles, 19 tackles for a loss and 10.5 sacks for a total loss of 69 yards.

Johnson, who stands at 6-6 and 253 pounds, broke out his sophomore year when he made 40 tackles with 15.5 for a loss, 6.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.

Bills defensive end Darryl Johnson

"He’s a rare guy to have a defensive end that you see sprinting down on kickoffs and blowing people up the way he does," Bills Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frazier said. "As a defensive end, he’s been a little hamstrung, not having an offseason a year ago was tough for him, but this year he really seems to be on course. We like where he is and just gotta keep giving him opportunities."

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

An under-the-radar but intriguing name, the #Bills have been receiving calls about Darryl Johnson from teams seeking edge help. With plenty of their own, Buffalo swings a deal with Carolina and GM Scott Fitterer… who has been known to do a trade or eight himself.

Sounds like Pete cut Marquis Blair so that he can have a chance to start somewhere else. So might be that Blair requested this.

Pete Carroll: "He's a guy that wants to play the game..very intense about it. This really gives him an opportunity to have a chance to start somewhere. We wish him the very best, and the door is always open."
