Let me finish here because it's a serious premise. I'm not being facetious.

When we look at the McDowell pick from outside the box, it may just be one of the most important and influential picks in franchise history.

I have heard many "in the knows" categorically state that the unfortunate outcome of his selection was the tipping point to change draft philosophies. He was the impetus that led to establishing rigid boundaries that the organization decided wouldn't be crossed under any circumstances.

I think it's fair to say that, under close scrutiny, there has definitively been a shift in our team building methodology since his selection and this draft corroborates that. Point being, from a big picture perspective, maybe his pick actually set us forward, as opposed to setting us back as many have believed.
