If Seattle had a good competent, trusted police force this would be a great idea.

We don't.

Seattle has one of the most corrupt police forces, filled with people that frankly should not be a police officer in the first place.

Some of them are great. Some are terrible. The problem is the terrible are allowed to remain, creating a consistent threat.

I have a friend that is an officer. He does not get involved in the games and power plays, but those people his nickname for them is "cavemen"

So the problem is that sports fans, in a highly charged emotional atmosphere, are expected to be governed by people that have consistently shown themselves to be lacking in judgement, much less morals and decency.

Seattle is a modern city, and in many ways is ahead of much of the country. But the corruption is New Orleans police force level.

Which makes this a bad idea.

So if a Niners fan starts some mess, you can't really do a thing.

Call the 12th Man Hawkeye hotline. It's on the back of every seat. I'd call it early, and often, if you get any kind of mouthy 49er fan, tell them you don't feel safe and an opposing fan is threatening you verbally, and they'll come and settle them down... or move them...

If i was going i would be trying to get my hands on a pretty convincing badge right now lol... Wear it under my jersey all obviously and run around screaming, "whos got it better than us?!" trying to high five drunk hawks fans.

You want to give the impression you're an undercover law enforcement officer? http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9A.60.045
Yes, right after I get high with a bunch of Hawks fans first.

This is simply an attempt to try to get the idiots to think twice about being idiots (if that’s possible) They said they will have cops undercover so yes there will be police in 9ers gear. Not many at all. I'd guess like 2 or 3 only. It’s more of a ‘we will do what we say’ thing. But stupid people will think there are 100 SPD officers in 9ers gear..that's what they want stupid people to think. And for those who know NOTHING about law enforcement trust that you will never know who they are. No “undercover” cop will pull a badge from under a 9er jersey and wrestle with a group of drunk fools. They will observe, report, and move on. If someone wants to be a jerk they will quickly be surrounded by uniformed officers who will be happy to remove their stupid ass from the area.

Go SPD….scoop up some terds for us

The sure as hell will NOT be doing this at Candlestick. It's well known that if you go there wearing opposing team colors that you do so with your own well being in mind.

Yes they are. They started under cover police officers in opposing teams gear two years ago for the Giants NFC Championship game.

What is so wrong about it? You guys should be happy, this is going to remove the junk from the stadium. The reason they started it is to prevent fan on fan violence. Unless your one of the culprits, then you have no reason to worry. These are Seattle cops... most likely Seahawks fans! This isn't some conspiracy to lock you up and suck money from you.

Everything that is complained about at candlestick... is what these SPD officers are here to prevent. If you plan to break laws and rules, then expect to get the boot. That goes for visiting 49er fans as well. Good!

Lots of people on their high horses here about experiences at candlestick vs century link... when news of an unruly fan come out at century, everyone is quick to support and say get rid of the slime, not a real fan, don't want him around here, etc. But as soon as SPD makes plans to be proactive a lot of people sure get nervous.
I don't have a problem with under covers monitoring the crowd behavior, but, in MY particular case, there was NOTHING done to the culprits that were wearing opposing team gear & makeup, even though I'd gone to the guys who are paid to keep things from going sour.
I did this twice, and it settled things down for about three minutes, and then it started all over again, and that bullshit is why I'm not impressed with this SPD undercover wearing opposing fan garb.
IF they want to be fair to BOTH sides, they'd just wear regular street clothes and nail the culprits regardless who they are fans of.

Why not just send the cops in cop uniforms?

Add more police but, you know, let them be a presence.

They're trying to set examples early and often. Of course leave it to SPD to pick this game to intentionally entrap local fans while making them look bad in front of our biggest rivals fans.
Here's the problem I have with this: The cops get the incentive to get to go to Seahawk games. Sure they're working, but they're human too and get to watch the game. Which means they really are MOTIVATED to show the tactic works. Which means they are MOTIVATED to make busts.

So all they gotta do is intentionally pick a fight with a Seahawk fan, be an asshole, be a douchebag, provoke something and BAM whip out the cuffs and off they go.

Justifies letting them go to Seahawks games.

That's a recipe for abuse.

OTOH, show up in uniform instead and people will behave themselves from the mere presence of the cops there. Mission accomplished. Only that would require more manpower and the cops don't get good seats, they gotta patrol.

This is probably more it than anything. Hey guys - before you act like arses - there will be undercover cops so just a heads up.

As said earlier, the parking lots are the real dangerous areas where if s gets out of hand - people are in real danger. Not much presence out there though. Didn't a hawk fan get beat to within an inch of his life in the Candlestick parking lot a couple years back after that Ginn Jr. fiasco to start off the season?

After the violence at the 49ers/Raiders preseason game a couple of years ago, the SFPD has been out in tremendous force. It seems like there must be nearly 1000 uniformed officers at the game, plus they started going "undercover" in opposing fan gear after the playoff game against New Orleans. At kickoff, anyone not waiting to get into the stadium is kicked out of the parking lot.

The fact is, NFL games tends to attract the kind of fans who drink heavily and act like complete idiots. Sure, it is only a small minority, but they ruin the games in most stadiums. Seahawks fans are far from the worst, but from what I have heard, things have gotten pretty bad there as well.

You Goddamned right metrade, I, and my loving wife of 34 Years of Seahawks following, were VICTUMS of opposing fan bullshit.
BUT!!!, there was NOTHING done to the opposing bastard fans that were giving us shit for 3/4 of the game.
My wife is an introvert, and wanted to leave early because of it, and my aggressive nature wanted me to stomp shit, but I caved in to my wife's wishes, and probably for the better that she got her way, as NONE of the stadium marshals did a Goddamned thing to quell their belligerent shit.
Before I left, I did let them know that I'd laid out a couple hundred bucks ON TOP OF travel/ expenses/accommodations, and this was a once a Year gig for us because we don't have the kind of money that can be blown without making some big personal sacrefices to attend this game.
We got a mini- helmet signed by Marcus Trufant for our troubles, eh? :141847_bnono:
My wife wont let me go to a game by myself, because she knows that I'd probably wind up in jail for stomping/ or being stomped, by an asshole opposing fan.
I don't believe in harassing opposing fans, but I'll be Goddamned if I should have to take their shit at the C-link either.
The Police Escort Service, should include showing assholes from other fandoms the EQUAL treatment, but they sure as hell didn't when I was there.
PLUS, are the Police going to do the same at the Candlestick, and everywhere else around the US.?

Very sorry this happened to you bro. Absolute bullsh*t.

At a MNF game hosting the Raiders in the dome, my friends and I witnessed about a dozen punkass wanna' be gangsta Raider fans torment the Hawk fans around them. We were about 5 rows back. In front and catty-corner of us sat a very nice, typical Seattle family of 4. The two boys around 7 and 10. The family was clearly agitated with the language used by the punks, but the guy was smart to not challenge them.

It got to the point where every time the hoodlums launched the F bomb, the woman would lean over and say something to the husband. I knew this wasn't going to end well. My friends and I watched the situation much more closely.

Finally, the idiot woman coerced the mild mannered guy into standing up and saying something. That resulted in a a profanity, racially charged attack on the guy in front of his wife and boys. I'd seen enough, as did my friends and several big dudes behind them. When the smoke cleared, we were all placed under arrest (but not before I managed to throw several Raider coats and hats down to the Hawk crowd below). And the big dudes that were arrested along with us? Off-duty Pierce county sheriffs. We lost that game so it was a good one to be removed from. No regrets for my actions, under the circumstances, I'd do the exact same thing again.

The motives to deploy undercover law enforcement are sound.

From a post by "reenie5" in the thread "Seahawks supporter charged with assaulting rival fan .. "

In fact, the report is using exact wording from multiple witness statements, as well as the person being charged. On that note, the guys who some are saying the Vikings fan was heckling and looking up at throughout the game causing problems, were the witnesses whose statements were a huge reason the city of Seattle decided to press charges.

A Cooke of things,
I think the cops are getting the worst of this, many are born and raised in Seattle and have to go the game wearing miner gear, yuck.
And I think they're gonna be lenient with the hammer. I rethink this is more geared towards physical abuse, I think you're going to have to go pretty far verbally

So, in the stands, the conversation will go something like this...

49ers "Fan": "Goooooo Niners!!!!!!"

Seahawks fan: "Excuse me, Sir. Could you refrain from yelling in my ear like that. It is halftime, after all."

49ers "Fan": "What are you going to do about it, Shehawk fan?!?!?!"

Seahawks fan: "Dude, relax. I'm just asking you to yell in another direction. I'm here with my 5 year old daughter, as you can see, and you're frightening her."

49ers "Fan": "All of you Shehawk fans are little girls! Come on! Make a move!"

Seahawks fan: "Are you a cop?"

49ers "Fan": "Um.... er... well... er... I've got to go get some nachos."

Entrapment? Nope. Not according to federal law.

It is the exact same thing the Troopers do in Alaska outside of Moose hunting season. They place a mechanical Moose within shooting distance from the highway and wait and watch to see who drives by and gets out the rifle to take a shot. The conscious decision to break the law is made by the shooter, the cops just create a tasty scenario to make it really easy (for those with the tendency to do so) to break the law.

Call it keeping honest people honest and you'll be more accurate. It's like Absolut says; the act of stealing the car is the crime, making it really easy to steal is the fault of the owner. The cops are simply trying to weed out the folks who are a hare's breath from verbally/physically assaulting someone by making it very easy for that person to offend.

The hundred or so people that get to witness them haul somebody off in cuffs makes all the ladies elbow their guys and say "see what happens when you mess with people". They can keep the masses in check by letting them know stuff gets punished. Having them wear Niners stuff insures at least some displays of force will occur that can be "witnessed".

Psychological crowd control warfare. Good idea.
Hence the "almost" after I wrote "It's entrapment".

Anyhow, you obviously aren't familiar with the Seattle PD. The point is, it will be an electric environment, and likely hostile for 49er fans. Putting cops in 49er gear (a waste of tax money, IMO) is inviting at least a fair amount of smack to be targeted at them. Given that we're talking about the Seattle PD, I fully expect that even the slightest provocation (e.g. "whiners suck!") will result in beating, tazer treatment, or just a good ol' shooting. It will embolden whiner fans. It waits for some sort of altercation to occur and THEN dealing with it as opposed to PREVENTING the altercation to begin with.

Psychological warfare? Please. It's yet another example of shite policing in our fair city.

From what I understand, these cops are being paid for by the Seahawks, not tax dollars.

For those of you having a hard time visualizing what having under-cover cops in the stadium will be like, here is a very... Interesting... Video.

http://us.tomonews.net/2013/09/13/110257/

Obviously, the 9er fans with the utility belts and huge donuts are the cops. Don't mess with them.

A bit exaggerated to lump "all" in the SPD but it's also not without it's slice of truth. IMO, many of the SPD are simply "minions or tools for city revenue". Some know it already and find ways to middle-ground to stay sane, some come to realize it later, and some haven't a clue. IOW: pinpoint and target those up the chain n order to resolve.
