Allen wanted it to have a similar atmosphere to the old UW stadium with the cantilever roofs.

That Roof has helped the Mariners win Championship after Championship.

By sending our players to other teams over and over again so they can get one.

I have to agree, I think it was because it’s least costly without a roof.

And football is meant to be played in the elements.

I think a city like Minnesota benefits from a roof cause Minnesota fall and winters are horrible snow fall.

Seattle not so much. Just mainly rain.

Rain is more tolerable.

Because why would any organization with aspirations to be great copy anything from the Mariners?

The Mariners are the best at NOT making the playoffs!

And the Mariners are the UNQUESTIONED BEST at NOT making the World Series!

But no team will want to duplicate being the best at these things!

Lol.

just because they didn't have retractible roofs back in the day doesn't mean it was 'meant' to be played in the elements.

Even before retractable roofs there were domes and people continued to build outdoor stadiums.

A lot of the teams that play in domes/retractables (Atlanta, Arizona, Minnesota) have extreme weather. We do not.

In this day and age there is no reason why they shouldn't have a retractable
roof especially in Seattle! This why we had a dome to begin with.
Rain does us no favors and all it does is slow down any speed advantage
and cause our RB to slip and lose footballs..I can see by looking at the
stadium from above that it is possible to construct such a roof and and I
hope it happens in near future.

Carson falling over the Saints and fumbling is his fault. The Saints play in a damn dome and handled the rain better than us. We didn't lose that game because of the weather, we lost because we shot ourselves in the foot and they kicked our ass at the line of scrimmage.

Good point on Saints.

Here’s my take on this:

When the Hawks played in the Kingdome teams would fly across the country and get to play in a 72°F
cozy comfy atmosphere. Why reward them with that when traveling. That gave them a better chance for a win. With the CLink being open air teams are forced to play in the elements. The weather in Seattle during football season is dreary. Always misty, damp, rainy. Put that together with the crowd noise and you have quite a home field advantage.

The other advantage is for the home team. Playing outdoors all the time makes road games easier to play. Look at the stigma of playing in temperatures under 40°F that Manning went thru. He played in a home-dome. Football dome teams are just not as successful as open air teams.

If the CLink had a roof there is no way the Hawks are as successful as they have been since playing there.

The design of the stadium was meant to, in part, mirror soccer stadiums in Europe. Paul Allen wanted the stadium to host a World up game eventually, as well as be loud.

The design would not have allowed for a retractable roof.
