The NFL is considering increasing the playoffs to 16 teams...they are using the pandemic as the excuse (https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30246231/nfl-competition-committee-propose-16-team-playoff-scenario-pandemic-contingency-plan-sources-say }....seems like they are thinking “ the more, the merrier“.

With 12 teams, only the “best, of the best“ made the playoffs....they now risk becoming like the NBA where only the “worst, of the worst“ do not make the playoffs and their regular season games are almost meaningless (basically just glorified exhibition games}.

Smells like another Jeruh attempt to get in so he can
fill his massive stadium and stroke his big fat ego.

Dumb idea. The playoffs should only be the top 12 teams. If you make it 16, that's almost half the teams in the NFL. What the hell would be the point? If that was the case then make it the Top 25 teams, or all 32 teams that get one more shot in the Super Playoffs.

The six NFC teams and the six AFC teams should be the best performing teams in the league, with the five and six seed teams being the ones that were on the edge of making it in.

They want to make sure the struggling legacy teams make it in every year.
The reeks of Jerruh Jones and Kraft.

Bad teams already get in the playoffs with only 6 in a conference. Adding two more is a joke.

It would probably be wild with upsets, with 1 and 2 seeds possibly getting dropped by 7 and 8 seeds.

The problem with the NFL is the teams aren't that far apart in talent, even between the Jets and the Chiefs, compared to college football where being way better is almost a guaranteed win.

The NBA had their usual seeding and teams. They also have the series format, so even if a relatively worse team pulls a game out or two they still generally aren't going to win in some surprise fashion. It just takes an off day for even the best of NFL teams to lose to the worst, and it happens a lot.

If you were going to let that many teams into the NFL playoffs, a system where you let the non-division winners play a week earlier for the wildcard slots makes more sense to me. The two top seeded teams would get two bye weeks, the other division winners get one.

Baseball needed to expand their playoffs, have needed to for many years.

Football doesn't need this. Yes, the only "reasons" for it is more money and more chances for legacy teams to make it.
