The people tried to copy what he did with the LOB is absolutely correct. Until the league pretty much outlawed the way we played defense. The league does not want defensive games. The voices of the casual fans were too loud after our lopsided victory. Then even worse was the Pats/Rams snooze fest. The ratings go up when the people get to see seventy plus points. The NFL are not interested in the ratings from people who always watch football. They want the people who they can sway by providing the product they want to see.

Clint Hurtt was a disaster from the jump. It was obvious.

However, Clint Hurtt is the symptom--not the disease.

The guy who hired him, and kept him in place coming off of 4 years of Norton, should've had the football acuman to know Clint Hurtt wasn't the guy, and moved off of him after only 1 year. Giving him a 2nd year in context with the 4 years of Norton already is gross negligence. The skipper steering the ship, continues to steer the ship into an iceburg and far too many have been cool with it.

The Seahawks have literally wasted the last 6 seasons of football featuring productive HoF level QB play, because Pete refuses to hire a quality NFL DC. Anyone of these seasons, with an above avg. defense they might've made a playoff run.

Whatever Pete's reasons are, (none of them make sense.) Outside of maybe no one wants to work under Pete on that side of the ball because at the end of the day--it is his defense and they don't want to be his stooge.

If you want things to change, demand better. Stop patting people on the ass and telling them they're doing good, when clearly--they are not.

Now Geno is going to start catching strays that Wilson used to get hit with.

This how the game goes:

-The defense can't get off the field to save their life.

-It demoralizes the whole team because they are not dumb, they can see it too. (Getting out schemed.)

-The offense starts pressing because they feel like they have to be perfect.

-The offense gets stiff rotting on the bench.

-Some players start freelancing because they lose trust in what the coaches are telling them.

-It snowballs, and before you know it, the offense is out of rythm and sucking too.

This is a coaching issue. Not a fire Pete thread per say. If Pete refuses to address this issue, then we have a huge problem.

They got 2 choices at this juncture.

A) Hire a high quality NFL DC with the pelts on the wall. Pete removes himself entirely, and becomes the CEO.

B) Pete refuses to do this, so he himself must be removed.

There is no option -C- where Pete just gets to keep doing what he's doing. They've done that the last 6 years, and it's clearly not working.
Whether Pete needs to be fired, or not - you called it after the 17 play drive in preseason.

Same thing on the field Sunday. I was worried then - and close to writing off the season based on what we saw yesterday.

It's obviously early, and I'm not prepared to call for Pete's head yet, so I'll hold my peace on that subject for the time being. But I'm sick and tired of all this excuse making for Pete.

DK Metcalf was flagged for a taunting penalty and safety Quandre Diggs was called for a personal foul away from the play in the closing minutes of the loss.

“I thought we lost our minds a little bit and we’ll talk about that,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “That shows you the frustration and based on the expectation that we were going to be better and not in that situation. I don’t like seeing this look, that looks terrible. We’ll talk about that.”

We'll talk about that? I realize that he's not going to say anything more corrosive in a press conference, but I sure hope to hell that he does more than just talk.
I said that DK should have been benched for discipline 2 years ago, after the camera in the stands incident.

He wasn't - the behaviour seems to be allowed/encouraged - and this kinda tantrum stuff is the result.

Been wishing DK could get his head on straight for a WHILE now. Pete's needed to stop giving a few people, including 14 and 16 a free pass for a few seasons.

All I want is for the Seahawks to win.

However, I refuse to lie to myself, and am not scared of the blowback of an unpopular take. "Be weary of confirmation bias" is my own personal motto. Most of my takes are arrived at by the data. The data builds over time and that is what forms my opinion, I don't go with feeling, just hard data particularly that is of not a small sample size. The defense has been suffering from these issues for a very long time. This is not a reaction to one game.

The Wilson vs. Geno thing last year was a statistical fluke, an outlier. That was somehow used to paint me as a moron for not seeing Geno morph into a pro-bowler, when literally no one saw that coming. His biggest proponents had him as a bridge QB, TJack style, that was going to manage the game by relying on a defense and a running game. Which didn't happen, and the revisionist history began.

Back to the Seahawks Defense. They are literally built to play a smothering man 2 man, that brings pressure from everywhere, and instead they play the most vanilla softzone QBs dream of facing, this is the results. And it will continue until they change, whenever that is.

I will never waver. I know football, I have 2 eyeballs, and I can't unsee it.
I mean Geno has looked decidedly pedestrian for the last 9 games so maybe he really is a bridge QB.

Yep. I said the same thing. You're preaching to the choir.

So, no evidence, just your word. Almost every single football show has videos of their segments on youtube. Almost every article posted online does not simply disappear. Any link will do to support your assertion.
It's common sense. You don't think Pete has anything to do with the game plan or the general approach? What is your evidence of that? This is an odd hill to die on and no one is going to go search google for something everyone already knows. What do you think Pete does? Just high five players? Of course he's involved in what goes on out on the field. I'm truly baffled this is new to you.

Again, you truly don't think a head coach has any input in a game plan? Huh.

This was Hurtt's first regular season game in which he called plays from up in the booth.

Next weekend will be his second.

Looking for improvement verses Detroit.

P.S. Telling unhinged tread title.

But I’m beginning to think the best we’ll do under him for the foreseeable future is a wild card and/or early exit in the playoffs.

Just beginning? I saw it 6 years ago and said Pete would never sniff another Super Bowl. Yes, early exits in the post season is Pete's ceiling at this point. Its why I have been ready to move on for some time now even if the team is bad for a few years.

You're ready for a revolving door again of Nathaniel Hackett types are you?

You guys keep forgetting that 50% of the reason Jody Allen doesn't move on from Pete is because she wants no part of actually burning the calories needed to run the team. She keeps extending Pete because he does most of the organizational heavy lifting.

What a night Dan Quinn's defense and the Cowboy's special teams had.
Reminds me of the good ole days .................

Yeah, those defensive stats look like LOB type stats. Wonder why Pete didn't pick up the phone and call Dan Quinn? "Hey Dan, let's get back to the SB together... I have an open position in Seattle. You game?"

Instead, we're settling for these sub-par positional coaches, hoping they develop into real coordinators. Took 4 years to figure out KNJ wasn't the guy. How long will it take with Hurtt?

Yes, i'm ready. The alternative isnt any better.

50% is too small Sarge. I'd say 80%.

Your deflection is comical. Of course Pete has something to do with the game planning.

What I am questioning, and at least River got it, is your assertion *again* that Pete Carroll has been regarded as the best defensive coach. You have said it several times. It is inaccuarte to the point of lying. Stop using the made up phrase and I will stop questioning it. Or provide a link, any link, from even the LOB days before the NFL neutered defenses that states that Pete Carroll is the best defensive coach. Literally no one believes that.

I'd like to see how this year goes before nailing Pete to the proverbial out to pasture cross.

If he and John can't put together another SB caliber contending roster after all the picks and cap space post Russell Wilson trade? Then I'm with you, it's time to move on and find a younger more viable head of this franchise.

But this is not something I can knee jerk along with fans after just one game into the season with one of the youngest rosters in the entire league, that hopefully will develop as we go along.

I've whole-heartedly felt from the moment they interviewed him, that HURTT was not the right guy for our DC position. All he's done since then is prove that he is not ready for prime time. I support Fade in his argument that Pete should not let this continue. However, at this point for this year, the only option would be to elevate someone like Carl Scott, whom I don't believe is ready to be a DC. So, that being said, what ca be done? Ride it out for the season with Hurtt and suck again? Put someone in who has potential but probably isn't ready yet? Go outside and find an unemployed DC who's probably unemployed for a good reason? Unfortunately, I think our fate is sealed with Hurtt for this season.
