These two most recent additions and a proven combination at DT to the team rather inexpensively.

Johnson has a history of being effective at times at getting to the QB, and Stephen is a reliable steady DT, both are steady players and hopefully look to be good additions.

To be complete ...... the Matt Tobin numbers are now listed at OTC

Matt Tobin 1 year OTC contract numbers with Patriots consists of $790k base salary plus $25k workout bonus for a non guaranteed total of $815k ....... current cap number (w/discount for years of service I presume) $655k >>>>> [urltargetblank]https://overthecap.com/player/matt-tobin/2539/[/urltargetblank]

Was Matt any good? Couldn't remember him earning too much play time under Cable.

IIRC he was predominantly used as a 6th lineman in certain packages.

Hard to truly know if he was any good with Coach Fable being in charge.

He was good enough to be drafted by Philly, and traded for by the Hawks when they were short handed at OT.

With NE’s system it will soon be seen if he was better than he was allowed to show here.

I have Seattle with $12,392,851 in cap room not accounting for Mike Davis, Marcus Smith and Shamar Steven.

So it'll likely be around $11M in available space once those three are accounted for.

For more cap, we are down to basically trading Earl, retiring Avril and Kam? If all three would to happen, what would our cap be for this season?

Kam will 100% be on the roster. The cap goes DOWN with him being cut.

Avril would bump the cap up by $7,125,000 and Earl would be $8,500,000 up so a total of $28,017,851 before the contracts for Mike Davis, Marcus Smith and Shamar Steven.

The team is back to close to where they were before the Bennett trade and releases of Sherman and Lane but have added some solid additions and renewed some players. There still are 39 open roster spots on the 90 man roster.

The plan appears to be becoming clearer as they refuse to over pay while eliminating aging players or those with injury questions or those who are not fully bought in or who were creating distractions.

Of course there remains the potential of + or - $7 million being added if Avril is released or retires.

To me the team has gotten bigger and faster at WR and cheaper on D. I still expect a few more significant moves or a potential Thomas trade. Both the O and the D will look differently this season. It's far too soon to judge how successful these moves will be until the season starts. I expect a few surprises to come.

Meanwhile the Rams appear to be going 'all in' for this season as their cap situation will soon be very cloudy when they will need to pay Donald, Gurley, and Goff among others on a long list of deals coming due for them. In short I don't think their situation is very tenable long term. They will be scary this season but after that I'd be more concerned long term about the Digits.

Jn'P are betting on their younger players and by opening up a few situations have raised the attractiveness of the team for street FAs and UDFAs for a potential roster spot. I expect to see a few more of that type of addition than last season.

This can't fail to escape notice around the league. It's smart roster assembling.

Rest of the league is looking at us and saying we don't scare anyone now.

Maybe it's a rouse and we will come out more aggressive, but the Kam hits, aggressive push on the edge isn't there on paper anyway. Wagner can only play well if he doesn't have to deal with a lot of traffic and O lineman, our interior has to keep him running free.

Running game and line has squashed nay respect for our offense, we will have to prove we can do anything, Baldwin and Wilson is all we really have if your looking in right now.

I suspect you are basing your negative decision on the play seen on the field from various DBs that were recently drafted even though none of them got that much PT behind the starters. On D our DBs will look different but whether the dropoff from the present starters is extreme I'm not sure any of us can really say for sure.

The running game is the only area I will agree heartily about. However, there the team has new coaching and some more experience and size with the OLine. I will wait and watch with the DLine as the two new additions played solid ball last season. Replacing Mike B isn't going to be easy but the draft hasn't happened and there are some gutys in the draft that are intriguing.

I am curious to see what they have before writing the D off based upon repuation or impressions based upon imcomplete information. I suspect they could be a lot better than you expect. Time will tell.

Seahawks true available cap space accounting for all players on the roster sits at $9,214,517.

They have exactly 61 players on the roster at present, so 29 more to add to get up to 90.

Assuming Byron Maxwell will still be resigned
Adding on the bottom two players when the cap goes from 51 players to 53
Paying for the draft picks (assuming about 6 of them make the roster)

That leaves them with around $1,000,000 going into the season to sign players to replace guys going on IR.

I can say with 100% certainty based on this that more roster moves will be made.

Avril could still come off the books and Earl could be moved.

If Avril is cut/retired but Earl stays, they'd have roughly $8,125,000 in available room.

If Avril stays but Earl is moved, they'd have roughly $9,500,000 in available room.

If Avril and Earl are both not on the roster they'd have roughly $16,625,000 in available room.

Another possibility if Avril and Earl do return is a Duane Brown extension. Although if that was their way of getting enough money to cover themselves during the season, it isn't ideal. They'd have to steal from Paul to pay James on the 2018 cap figure for Brown which isn't ideal.

Unless changes to Avril and/or Earl happen don't expect a Frank Clark or Tyler Lockett extension this summer.
