Bring the PWR back and make it a $3/mo subscription or something, IMO. I'd pay. :)

Do that, and then put ads on but only for guests browsing the site, not for members who are logged in; then see where you're at financially a few months later and evaluate again at that point.

Forgive me for saying this, but ..................... the last time around convinced me that this community has yet to realize the invention of a vessel strong enough to contain a PWR forum. Our past PWR forum blew holes thru it's boundaries and scattered debris and contamination thru out the site. As it is, tidying up after what bleeds out of the Smack Shack is presumably a demanding enough chore.

IMHO, invention of a sufficiently impregnable container would be a prerequisite for any consideration of a return of a PWR forum to this community. And, there really is no pressing need to bother with such a surplus of dedicated PFD sites scattered thru out the internet world. IMO, the more separation that exists between that world and this community, the more inviting and comfortable our community becomes for all things Seahawk.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

I noticed Bing, Google, and Yahoo bots looking in on us as I typed this. We are going to have to find a way to make clicks and revenues, among other things, flow in more than one direction. The reality is ..... we are in the same boat as local papers, local businesses and local schools that are being crushed by 800 pound gorillas. We go wanting for a disruptive invention.

There is an Amazon setup required to receive funds. Has this been done / altered after ownership change?
Might as well request a check on the Donation link and tracker as to whether it is working properly and forwarding funds.

My advice would be to contact other forum owners and ask them how much their costs are and how they're dealing with it. There's no guarantee any of them would help but the 1st person i'd ask would be @shaggy. He owns multiple forums on different platforms. He's probably best known for sportshoop.la/ and arizonasportsfans.com/forum/. I'm not totally sure what platform this forum uses but many of the NFL fans groups have switched to the XenForo platform. That would be my choice of forum software to use. This is not my area of expertise. I don't know where the high costs come from. It maybe the domain name or server costs for all I know. Good luck with whatever you do. My experience is if you go for ads you get nothing but grief from members and ad providers, (particularly Google), are a real pain to comply with.

We have seen if you don't control you are controlled, not at first, everyone is one big happy family, once they see the traffic volumes they start demanding their constraints.

Why we are here in the first place and private thanks to Aros, and Rockhawk over the years and the rest of the members who fought to maintain our individuality.

Once you are under a contract to a authority with infinite resources compared to us you lose your identity.

Just come up with the best plan that keeps the site going in your opinion. You bought the site and know what needs to be done. The vast core of members will support the move. :2thumbs:

How many regularly contribute here? Would $1/month really break anyone’s bank? I know, I know, the *gasping* that comes with the idea of a pay for site, but honestly, a buck? Direct withdrawal on the first of every month and no one would miss it.

I can't think of a single forum that does this.

Mid page ads unless logged in, top page or a few sidebar with or without login. That is what nearly every other forum I use does. Pay to play will drive away people except for the small handful of hardcores, which in turn wont generate ad revenue via page views. Look into one of the google ads packages possibly. I myself do zero web advertising so I am pretty ignorant on it from soliciting perspective.

Possibly tie in .net to some pregame fundraiser type stuff at local bars on game days during the season to fill the gaps.

Is .net a 501c3, LLc, S or C corp, or just an Sprop? Fundraising options vary depending on business structure.

It is owned by an LLC.

Interesting viewpoint, without selling your soul though, isn't it possible that the management here can control their desire for cash? There are extremes with this and it can be easily seen by comparing some draft websites like walterfootball.com and draft countdown.com one with an annoying number of adds, and the other more reserved. It is a truly a matter of balance.

End goal would be to have a few exclusive sponsors in a scrolling banner on top. To start we will probably go with google ad sense and once data is collected and I have more time I will look to pitch this to some companies.

To start Virginia Mason or T Mobile would be awesome partners. Maybe stub hub or something else related.

LOL, RockHawk and Anguish have been rolling in the funds for weeks. That's where all the money went!

I thought this post was going to be about. . . well, that someone recognized my presence here. Too self-centered, aren't I?

Can .net run a sportsbook?
It's my understanding that betting on sports events is illegal in Washington for both bettors and operators.

It would generate immediate heat for .net

Think this is the post that should be the most focused on.

The pit
I’d go with the little bit at a time approach until you can get the point where the site is self sufficient.
Also might want to leave open a portal for one time donations via PayPal, go-fundme, or others.... so if someone wishes to donate that route they can.

I also wouldn’t mind iRo’s idea of opening up the PWR as a minimally moderated “pay only” part of the site where the politcal animals can go at it. Political people like to discuss all things politcal and I’m sure some are willing to pay for that privilege here. That way folks that want to go to the PWR can, and others that don’t want to won’t even see it as they won’t have access.

Just spit ballin’ here!

That is another out of the box solution that I love. If you want to pay to be as nasty as you wanna be in a special cordoned off part of the site...go for it! Some will...Zeb...Me... ;)
