I don't think it's lack of effort at all save for maybe not risking injury. I do agree with the poster that worried he may have bulked up too much in the off season and lost his quickness in the process. He looks like a running back now instead of a short stop. He looks too tight to move quickly. Hopefully he will loosen up!

I think people are over reacting about this. Griffen and Barr are both extremely good athletes. Griffen I think is the one who caught Russ, ran a 4.6 40 coming out of the draft. Barr is a 4.6 guy. These two, with a head of steam are running down any QB in the league...especially when the QB is just getting started running. Minnesota just happens to have really good athletes on the edge. Russ looked like Russ (except like stated above his pocket presence was rusty....escaping in wrong direction many times).

Yup, this. Griffen is fast enough and was already close enough to Russell and with a running start. That was my take. There are some fast DL in this league. Like Bruce Irvin was one of the few players who could catch Kaep when he decided to run.

Robert Quinn and it seems like a couple more Rams D-Linemen are the others I've seen consistently catch Russell from behind.
