Carroll's best days are behind him. He is nearing 70 years old and his mental errors are mounting. How long are we going to cling to the past? At this point Carroll is Mike McCarthy. I'm grateful contributions but the notion that he should be able to "coach until he decides to quit" that people have around here is laughable. You pay the man for what he's going to do not what he has done.

I contend that Carroll is being bailed out by Wilson all too often. Miracles and last game comebacks are great but at some point it is going to catch up with the Seahawks. We're wasting Wilson's prime under Carroll. For those of you that say "REMEMBER THE 90s?" I say that is a bad argument. We don't have Dan McGwire, we have one of the best QB's in the league -- a player that carried this team before the coaching got in his way this season. We aren't the Browns either with an endless revolving door of QBs.

Carroll is never going to bring us another Super Bowl ever again, period. He's peaked. He needs to be given the option to either surrender his play calling duties or leave.

Shhhh, quiet Grasshopper.
Whenever someone says something could never happen, when it obviously could, it confirms to me that they tend to have no idea.

Go ahead and put that quote in the signature. Carroll will never win another Super Bowl with the Seahawks, period. I'm quite confident that history will look kindly upon this statement.

Carroll has peaked, I'm going to go even farther and say that we're probably not going to even participate in an NFC championship game under Carroll.

I am not even going to say that you are wrong because none of us can predict the future. What I don't care for is your sh*tty @ss attitude you convey in your posts. You come across as precisely the type of person I would never want to hang out with. Congrats.

And PS, you are the latest winner in a poster I no longer wish to hear from so you are blocked. Any response will be met with a blissful silence from me. After all, I won't even have the displeasure of reading your cynical response.

This is one of the biggest issues in this place. Nearly every post this guy makes is anti-Pete. He has company. There were a few guys that every post they made was anti-Penny earlier this year. Go to the Shack and P-Med makes the same posts 12-15 times a day. Nearly every post John63 makes is defending Wilson from some perceived slight or complaining about the offense we run. Those are just a few examples. You see the rest. Then we get a really good poster like Tamberlane and he's here for a couple weeks and pretty soon his posts get less and less frequent because it gets tiresome trying to swim upstream against the current of the same endless crap.

If you don't like it leave, or do what he did -- mute the posters you don't like. It is that simple, period. There is also only so many topics that are Seahawks related that you can discuss as well. Wilson, and Pete are the biggest contributors to our success or lack thereof so of course you're going to see a glut of topics about them, many rehashing some of the same things.

Also if everyone thought the same or marched in unison this place would get boring real quick. I, for example find that many of the same topics, and points are made on the Seahawks subreddit, and on many other forum. Maybe you need a break from message boards until the next game?

Whilst these Pete Carroll threads have been running, I have been reading through my Cricket magazine. Towards the back I got to the book reviews. In one book, an autobiography the author described an former England Captain of the 1960's as having the talent regarding tactics of being a genius and an idiot at the same time.

I feel that this statement at times applies to Pete Carroll.

I will say whatever the hell I want within the boundaries of the site. You don't like my post, don't respond, block me, whatever. I don't give 2 shits about you. Aros is bored with your agenda too.
Do you realize making the same post over and over and....is just as boring for the rest of us as everyone all agreeing? Perhaps that's beyond your agenda.

I believe Pete has one more self-reinvention in him. This could be the one that leads to a couple years of great success, including another Lombardi. It will be based partly on this next draft class and free agent class, and partly on continued development of existing young players. The rest would have to be Pete making the needed adjustments on game-day issues, game planning approaches, adjustments, etc. If there's any coach who has reinvented himself multiple times during his career and is capable of this, it's Pete.

Pete might have to do things like fire under-performing coordinators (Norton*) where historically he's been overly loyal to them (Cable, Bevell) to the team's detriment. Except for Jeremy Bates, a long-distant memory, who was fired after one season; Bates was the OC during Beastquake, but the next playoff game, vs. Chicago, 8 punts in 8 series (most 3-and-outs)

* Fire Norton is a separate thread, IMO, and I don't know how much is personnel, and if Norton can improve results with time and growth in the job; I'm sure Pete will review this during the offseason.

Sincerely hope the first part of your post comes to fruition and I agree with the latter part or "the rest" as you put it.

No, but all the examples you gave are of opposite viewpoints to yours. Some of the people who tend to agree with you are as bad as or even worse than the examples you give and you yourself have done exactly what you are talking about at times. So while xray's post had a poor tone to it, it isn't out of the realm of reasonable for him to form that question from your post.

I added a couple things to my earlier post in this thread, because there was this one counter-example where Pete fired OC Jeremy Bates after one year. In contrast to Pete allowing the overstay of the under-performing CaBevell combo for multiple years.

Interesting that Bates has bounced around and was the Jets OC last year, but the "philosophical differences" Pete had with Bates seem to show up in ex-Hawks like Golden Tate and Jerome Kearse. Last year, Tate, from the Detroit POV, said the Jets should fire Bates and keep Todd Bowles (who they fired at season's end). Kearse declined to comment on Bates, but in ways that spoke volumes. So it seems Pete got the one-and-done Jeremy Bates firing right, back in 2011.

Not picking on you guys, but with the sentiments expressed in this thread, maybe a new forum, "The Toilet" is needed, for pissing matches? Mods just move the pissing match posts out to the toilet and replace with a link to The Toilet. Yeah, I know, as if the mods needed more workload. Never mind. And maybe that's what The Shack is already being used for, an outhouse shack. I don't spend much time there so I'm ignorant of the nuances. I have seen mods move threads or posts to The Shack before.

It's no big deal, and there is always the option to ignore posters who do a lot of pissing, but it sure reduces the proportion of actual football-related conversation, analysis, etc. in threads, and wastes a lot of time for those of us who don't really give a poop about ad hominem pissing matches.

Pete Carroll is an excellent coach. You have consistently won and been competitive since he has been there. He has won at every level he has been at. He is a real good coach. You should keep him.

When a 49ers fan tells you to extend your coach you should fire him ...

When 49er fans are sincere and not actually trolling, we should recognize that as well. That is a fanbase that has suffered through a lot of very disappointing years, post-Harbaugh. Also a fanbase that watched us come within 2 inches of sweeping the season series this year. So I'm taking SanDiego49er's post at face value. I'd guess he also has some sincere opinions on the LA Chargers as well, and that his comments about Pete are informed by the perspective of the SD Chargers fiasco. (The SD to LA move still makes no sense to me, never mind the underperformance issues)

Your second sentence is correct but your first is not. I actually agree with Spin, you, X-Ray and the group that wants Pete "kicked upstairs" in your criticism of his clock mgmt and have said as much. I have also said the continual regression of the defense is cause for legitimate and serious concern. The posts are there. I also agree with about 70% of what John63 posts as I feel Russ is an elite QB headed for the HOF. What grows so very tiresome is the same thing being said over and over ad nauseum. The gun arguments in the Shack are the absolute worst. There was one thread that got locked and then another one gets started and the same people are making pretty much the same posts ON BOTH SIDES of the issue.
