I downloaded this as an ebook, and there is no reference to "red line" nor "middle of the field" in the book.

I even read the section about turnover Thursdays, and no reference to "middle of the field" and turnovers.

John63 fan fiction perhaps?

I am going to have to pull out my paperback and check. I know I have read it somewhere from Carroll and I am pretty sure it was from the book.

The middle of the field is where turnover risk is greatest, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was really Pete all along.
