Most OC's script a certain amount of plays 15 or so to test defense alignments and to set up future plays and looks and do not need 3 quarters to do so. They then exploit the looks they get and make or try to make the defense react to them, change the look and alignments going forward to confuse coverage and or plays to get a lead and take pressure off the defense. This allows the defense to apply pressure and make the opposition take more chances trying to play catch up resulting in more turnovers, short fields and more points scored.
