I've always like Haus which is weird considering a lot of people here complained about him for quite some time.

I'm glad he's back. I think we paid too much, though. With that said, the overpay shouldn't create any issues with keeping other players, so that mollifies the issue a bit.

Not at all. He scores more points than anyone else on the team. He scored 143 points last year and the next closest is Lynch at 84. He made 33 out of 35 with 94.3% success rate. He's tied with 4 other kickers at 5th place for the 2013 season and paid at the #11 slot. So yeah, he is worth it.

Not sure we'd have made it by NO without him. The wind was terrible. NO kicker missed 2 Hausch made all 3.

Graded out as the fifth best kicker in the league, and this deal makes him the 11th highest paid. Seems like good value for us?

My son will be immensely happy. I don't know why he is drawn to a kicker of all things. He talks about Stephen Hauschka all the time. I think he likes him next right after Russell Wilson.

kids value reliable people. that and your boy likes that him and russell are super calm despite their high pressure roles. all year (and the year before) my wife would say he should be team MVP if there was such an award and i'd tell her to stop talking about him or else she'd jinx him. just as viniateri was instrumental in the pats' 3 titles, hau$ch could be that dude for us. nice payday for him, one less thing for us to worry about.

Great news! Happy for Hauschka. Also relieved for not having to watch a noodle leg loose us the games that Hausch would have won. The reliability is easily worth that money.

I said all along that he's worth up to $3 million a year, so I can't complain.

When he comes onto the field for a field goal, you know you're getting 3 points. When he comes on the field for an extra point, it's automatic (and if they enforce the new rule of 25 yard XPs, Hauschka will be even more valuable). Last year he greatly increased his kickoff distance too, and there were many times he just kicked it out the back.

He is one of the best kickers in the league, and with a team like ours that plays in a ton of close games, Hauschka was very important to re-sign. If we went into next season with an unproven guy or a vet on the decline, it is very likely we lose a few games because of missed kicks. I'm not worried now.

Relief.

I've already made my points in other kicker-related threads, so I won't belabor them too much here. Here's a quick summary:

1) The kicker scores more points than anyone else on the team on almost every team in the league. So what? That's tied completely to the nature of the position.

2) He had a great season last year. The year before wasn't quite as good, and the year before that wasn't on that level, either. Very, VERY few kickers consistently rank in the top 5 year in and year out. The only one I can think of is Bailey in Dallas.

3) For clarification on #2, this means that the ranks of "elite" kickers pretty much change every single season. A guy who is "elite" one year could be league average the next. There's very little difference between the two categories. So instead of giving a kicker a salary that puts him at the top of the league, you should instead pay him closer to the league average, because it's likely that he'll post league average numbers during at least part of the contract. And that's what the Seahawks did, apparently.

No, they did NOT overpay for him. He's the 11th highest paid in the league. And he's clearly top 5, period. 3 mil is the going rate these days for a good kicker.

Is that similiar to what we paid Josh Brown a long time ago? I was afraid he would get more. Good field position is important

with our offense.

Yup, Hauschka was 2nd in the league in FG %age last season. That's awesome.

He was tied for 12th the year before.

He was 17th the year before that.

Maybe he's getting better. Or maybe, just maybe, he's like every other kicker in existence and his success rate fluctuates by a few points here and there each year.

Remember Josh Brown? He was awesome for us, right?

Here are his ranks with Seattle and then in the years following:

2005: 30th
2006: 18th
2007: 24th
2008: 16th
2009: 22nd
2010: 13th
2011: 31st
2012: 5th
2013: 17th

See that? Here it is again with Phil Dawson:

2005: 2nd
2006: 28th
2007: 12th
2008: 22nd
2009: 6th
2010: 21st
2011: 19th
2012: 3rd
2013: 14th

So, you find me a kicker that CONSISTENTLY ranks in the top 5 over a stretch of multiple seasons, then I'll agree that he's elite and deserving of more money than every other kicker in the league. But Haushcka isn't that guy.

But again, no big deal. The contract he got is about 750k more per season than I would have given him, but it's done now and a moot point.

Great news to wake up to. I was getting nervous about him not being signed yet, was talking about it with my Dad just two days ago. Hausch-money is back!

...or Starrman44's son could be an NC State fan. :D Hauschka and Wilson both had record seasons for the Wolfpack in 2008.

Joking aside this appears to be agood deal all the way around as Hauschka's family appears to be happy as well.

Great signing - sure is noticeable when you have a faulty kicker. This signing is worth actual points / game...

8th best % all-time. I'd say he is worth it.
