Why OT and WR? I think we're set there and should only pick one if it's a BPA pick. TE I'm more amenable to prioritizing over the others you mention.

Lockett only has two years left on his contract and Eskridge's time is short and no guarantee he makes the final roster this year. Plus, this is a deep WR draft where a quality WR can be had in the mid rounds to develop when Lockett eventually moves on.

Offensive tackle becomes important if Lucas' has chronic injury issues that worsen and having a tackle in the wings to develop becomes important. Fant is a good stop gap but the team may need to have a plan in case Lucas's chronic injury history worsens or flares up.

Our OL has been bad for years, and yet, we did invest draft capital, remember Ifedi?
Yeah that didn't work out but that doesn't mean we shouldn't spend some later round draft capital on possible OL improvements. It could lead to improvements in the running and passing game. The Lions have one of the best OL's in the league and there's no denying the success they've had this past season. I'm not saying we draft OL in the first 2 rounds but we should consider it after that since line play is a big part of determining the course of a game.

Taking a LT for our LG need ought to be on the table?

We definitely will be picking lower than 16. John is going to trade back because we need the picks. With that said, I think we need to take the best LB available. I said it last year. On this defense we need some guys that can plug the holes at the line of scrimmage. Bobby and Brooks were takling guys after they had gained 5-6 yards last year. Brock is right we need a thumper in the middle of this defense if we're going to stop anyone.

Mac likes aggression and intimidation, we are going to have a few penalties on defense till we establish players, Officials love throwing flags at nasty looking hitting, so players we are going to target will be guys that tackle and finish. Speed will be nice but I think technique will be higher as well as some size.

Great stuff, Toffee. I appreciate the effort you put into this.
Without doing any maffs, let's just say you gave the team a solid B (overall). For all intents and purposes, I'm satisfied with a B. New coaches, new system(s) and a few solid rooks joining an already pretty good team.

I think we all agree Mc really knows his stuff. For obvious reasons, like NFL inexperience, the jury may be out on Grubb. I know the Grubb (DeBoer) offense fairly well. I've given this a ton of thought and like from out of the blue I've been greeted with a huge injection of confidence regarding that side of the ball. Is Grubb a bonified NFL coach? Certainly not yet, but it's all football and Grubb just wins football games.

This confidence is also inspired by Huff. 3 years ago, reports say Jimmy Lake forced Huff to "fatten up" and destroy a very good OL at UW. That line was beaten soundly by Montana. Ugh. I was kinda miffed when DeBoer kept Huff on staff (becuz I don't know jack). 2 years later Huff produced the best OL in all of college football. Certainly Grubb's play calling assisted in that. But the situation they are in today is quite similar. Solid RBs, fantastic WRs and very capable TEs. They will not have the same caliber of QB this year but I believe in our QB room (until I don't). Grubb will scheme around that as well as the OL woes, as he did 2 years ago at the Dub. In the interim, Huff will be improving our OL (at least in theory). So add that solid B to all of the above and hell yeah, I'm feeling pretty darn good going into '24.

Throw in that in '23 the Dawgs were working with a limited RB room. I suspect Grubb will not be as pass happy as he was with the Dawgs last year. He won't have to be.

Grubb has done just about everything in offense as well as strength and conditioning coach, they as a team Deboer and him had success everywhere they went at all levels. That can't just be DeBoer, it transitioned, now are they a magic couple, could be, we will see sometimes it takes two to make one thing great. But I think his overall make up is one that fits the scheme to the talent. He will have to adjust, things happen faster in the NFL and plays have to be crisp and typically under 3 secs from snap to final ball carrier. It should be interesting to watch his as well as Mac's development as first timers.

Also with that success he didn't always have Penix at all his locations where he coached and had success.

I am hopeful that Grubb is Belichick to DeBoer's Parcells in their relationship.
