12-4 Record, 68.8 Completion Percentage, 4212 yards passing, 40 TD's/13 Int's, 105.1 Rating in 2020

That sucks???? Not to sound like John but if THAT is a bad year, I'm sure MANY teams would LOVE to see their QB play so "bad"

I didn't say bad year, I said long stretches of stinking.

Six turnovers in four games, which is rare for Russell I know. But I need to see a return to dominance before committing to him for another 4-5 years at 50M a year.

Even then it's crazy to think of paying a QB that much soaking up 25% of the cap.

But yeah, another 2020 or 2021 year? Nope, I can't do it.

The problem is almost all great QBs have stretches

Mahomes last year a stretch of 7 of 8 games below 90 passer rating with 7 of the 8 below 80. 6 ints in 4 games, adn 8 tos in those same 4 games

Brady a stretch of 3 games under 90 with 6 tos in 3 games

Allen a stretch of 6 games with 5 under 90 and 7 tos

The difference is those teams can still win when their QB plays less than spectacular. We can't because we are not constructed to. We have always played with such a small margin for error that we can't win without Wilson playing out of his mind. Now that said it seems PC has figured that out so hopefully we will not do that.

The Chiefs are very much finding out what we already know, it's extremely difficult to win SB's when you have to pay your QB 20% of the salary cap.

In fact, no team has won a SB over the past 10 years with a QB making more than around 12-13%.

2020: Patrick Mahomes: 2.4% (Rookie)

2019: Tom Brady: 12.4%

2018: Nick Foles: 1.0% — Carson Wentz 3.6% (Rookie)

2017: Tom Brady: 8.9%

2016: Peyton Manning: 12.2%

2015: Tom Brady: 11.1%

2014: Russell Wilson: 0.6% (Rookie)

2013: Joe Flacco: 6.6% (Rookie)

2012: Eli Manning: 11.7%

2011: Aaron Rodgers: Uncapped season

2010: Drew Brees: 8.7%

A little skewed because Brady could have demanded 40M a year from the Patriots and Bucs. But he didn't, because he knows this as well.

It's a Sophie's Choice discussion, and there is no right answer really. Don't pay your top 10 QB, and risk decades of going 7-9 because your QB is average to below average.

Or pay him, and risk not having enough cap space to make up for bad drafts, trades and player acquisitions.
