Time to make a distinction here between the read option and other plays:

Russell ran once from the read option against the Bengals. For a decent gain. Still....only once.

Wilson, as a running threat in the read option, has nothing to do with being a "statue in the pocket". Apples and oranges. I expect that Wilson will be effectively elusive as a passer for the rest of his career. Still doesn't mean that opposing coaches won't put an emphasis on stopping the running back in the read option because Wilson is too expensive to be repeatedly used in the run game.

Don't think he's hurt, think he is playing smart not to get hurt.... The other players on the team have to pick it up.... Protection, Protection, Protection.... :irishdrinkers:

Rewatch that forced fumble by the Steelers.

Read option. Unblocked defensive end completely ignores Wilson. Waits like a tactically planned military ambush to perfectly time punching the ball out.

The read option play before that? Ifedi called for holding because he can't sustain his block long enough for Carson to elude the unblocked defensive end.

The read option is officially a dumpster fire.

Look again at the player spying Wilson.
