It is going to take a few years for Seattle fans to realize the window shut a while ago. I figured that a while ago.

Would you like a medal?

Seriously, the window hasn't shut on this team unless we no longer have the horses for it. The Saints are reinforcing that a strong quarterback and a decent defense are still the best predictors of NFL quality.

Now, if the coaches aren't willing to adapt to the strengths of the team, then it's true we might never see the big game again under Pete. But that doesn't mean the window shut. Just that the coach threw themselves towards the open window, missed, and splattered comically against the wall next to it.

This goes to show you unless you're the Patriots, your time at the top in the NFL may be short lived.

So when you are at the top, you maximize every opportunity to win as much as you can.

Pete Carroll, is now seeing what happens when you try and resign "every one." They get older, injuries mount, they get less hungry, and stop playing as well.

Got to continually stay young in order to win in this league.

This! And this is also why the Pats only keep Brady and Gronk year after year.
Yes sir!

Staying young is quintessential.

And the thing is, Belichick does not have a set "identity" like a Pete Carroll system does.

Belichick tells his coordinators to game plan to exploit the opponents main weakness.

Have you notice the Patriots offense is usually based on what their opponents is less efficient on?

If the patriots opponent can't stop the run well, the patriots mostly run the ball.

If they can't stop the pass, Belichick tells McDaniel's to have Brady throw all over them.

This what I admire most about Belichick, he does not give a damn about a "need to establish the run" etc like Pete Carroll does.

Whatever the opponent isn't good/as good at, Belichick targets.

You can hate Belichick, but you also have to give him his credit!

His coaching strategy is simple, but at the same time, essentially genius!

Bevell called that play, nobody would expect it.

The Saints also have two great RBs and an OL that is good in pass pro and arguable the best in run blocking..... We basically have a comparable QB, better WRs/TEs, and a better defense. This has me thinking that maybe building the offense from the trenches out might be more sustainable for the offensive system Pete wants to run than the one we have.

Anyhow, with Russ and the defense, even hurt as it is, we still have a shot at the SB!

We win tomorrow we are back in first place. We have the 49ers next week and rams have the saints. We can be in sole possession of first place with two wins. We also have the rams and cardinals at home.

Last i looked, we're 6-3 and have 7 games left to play. We're 3-0 in our division with the 2 tougher wins on the road.

These are what are known as facts.

In the future, please try not to interrupt the hyperbolic doom and gloom e tantrums with your pesky facts.

Mahalo for your kokua.

I wish we could have those trades for Sackless Sheldon and Decrepit Duane back. We need those draft picks.

We need Sheldon more than Brown. Lack of interior pass rush has been more responsible for our playoff exits than any other factor. If you guys want to talk about "playoff ceilings" under Pete, THAT is where to look. And Pete has addressed it.

As far as Brown...well, I've still got a betting pool with myself (sad, I know, but at least I don't lose anything) over how long it will take people to realize that Wilson has remained a mostly outstanding QB without a good offensive line. We didn't need Brown as much. It was a steep price - two rebuilding picks for a guy who, if injured (and now he is), has a slower-to-heal body and far fewer years ahead of him to justify the trade than, say, a tackle in the draft.

What mostly validates the Brown trade is that there ARE no good tackles in the draft anymore.

What a load of crap that is. ...."Say a tackle in the draft" = Ifedi or Carp in the 1st round or a 2nd string center / guard. Have you not been paying attention? We CANNOT draft quality oline starters. Ifedi is in year 2...just look at those results. :177692:

Also Reed and even Jones are getting better interior pressure than Richardson.

Brown over Richardson all day if he is demanding $12M+ as reported.

Yea because those draft picks would've helped us this year. And relying on Odhiambo is an awesome plan.

Seriously ?

One thing to keep in mind, New Orleans was completely out of it - for years, because they could not field a defense.

And supposedly their coach was tremendous at offense but could not build a defense either.

However, some decent drafts and wise player pickups = suddenly not a craptacular defense.

So, there is hope.

But to do it, the Saints had to get rid of their DC and they had to wait several years while essentially out of it.

And they had to make changes. But if Carroll wants to go with his UTTERLY STUPID previous strategy of trying to "out-athlete" the opposition, overly rely on 'splash' plays and essentially tread water until the 4th quarter? Then yes, we are done and we are not making it back until it changes.

What is clear is that with the defense aging, just doing what we always did is going to get us what it has in the past 3 years - maybe a wildcard and then utterly embarrassed in the next game.

So the window might not be closed, but with the current strategy it might as well be.

This team is going to have to make some significant changes if it wants to be a contender again.

So......there are 7 games left, and they are only a half game out of 1st place, and can take over 1st with a win tonight. And somehow the season is lost........ :34853_doh:

One of the most objective and lucid posts I've read on here in a while.

It's very simple for me....................This team's immediate future, this season and for the remainder of Carroll's tenure here will hinge on Pete's willingness to change. Plain and simple.
