I think the Hawks are trying to have Russell re-invent his game to a more Xs and Os focused quick read type of game. They would prefer for Russell to make the adjustment, and Russell is struggling with it.
The rest of the league already knows about this and Russell's trade value has dropped like a rock. It looks like the Hawks are giving Russell the rest of this season to make the adjustments, and hoping he is successful.
This. All the talk about Russ being ruined by Pete... if he can't read xs and os now, then when could he? And if he's this incapable after all those years of getting into the facility before anyone to study tape, then what hope is there? For his entire career , he's been known as the guy that works the hardest.
I just want to know what he was working at this whole time to be where he is. His failure to improve at the position is on him. He's a professional, provided the same resources as every other qb in the league. And if you watch tape from 2013, and 2014, it's not a whole lot different. Russ has always been the player he is now. And he's either been content to be that guy or cant make the leap to the next level.
And for him to have made the stink he did this offseason about how the coaches are holding him back or the line is holding him back, or the coordinator is holding him back or he needs more talent... it was a bunch of BS for him now to put on tape the game that he has. Finger be damned. His performance now in terms of being able to dissect a defense is no different than the wildcard game against the Rams last year or any of the games after week 6, or in many instances, from the beginning. Russ put this on everyone but himself and now the cog that's holding the team back most is him.
