Any word on how the kickers have been so far?

I've heard mixed things about Janikowski, yet nothing on the other kicker. Yet heard lots on the punters.

I think last year showed the importance of a good kicker.

Carroll made a comment today about Janikowski showing off a huge leg. Today Myers sat out, and Janikowski received all the kicking opportunities. He went 3/5, but evaluating that depends on the length of the misses. Janikowski looks very muscular with massive calves.

Yesterday, "Sebastian Janikowski and Jason Myers each went 4 for 4, each making a kick during a two-minute drill and each making all three of their kicks during the regular field goal session — each from 33, 43 and 53 yards."

Screw the kickers, what's going on with the punters?

Ian on 950 was just going on and on about how Janikowski was giving skowls and clearly did not want Dickson holding for him. Seems there are kicker / punter clicks going on between the pairs LOL.

One of the biggest factors in the punting competition will be their secondary role: acting as the holder on field goals and extra point attempts.

“That’s really part of their job,” Schneider stated. “They have to punt and then they have to make it easier for the kicker, so that’s a huge part.”

While Dickson brings a powerful leg and a very unique style, he will have to prove that he can be a consistent holder for either Sebastian Janikowski or Jason Myers next season. Ryan has long demonstrated proficiency as a holder, whereas Dickson, ‘hasn’t done a whole lot of it,’ according to Schnedier. However, Schneider did give Dickson a vote of confidence in the early going, saying that he has ‘great hands’ and has done a nice job so far.

Overall, it looks like the fate of both Dickson and Ryan will depend on Dickson’s growth in that area.

This seems absolutely silly to me. If Dickson is punting way better than Ryan, but the kicker likes Ryan holding the ball better then Ryan gets the nod? Why cant somebody else field the snap on FG's? Why does it have to be the punter? That's stupid.

Yes. Do you expect Pete and JS to waive a generational punter? I don't. McGough or someone else can be the holder.

Seabass has shown he can hit from 53 yards. I'm seeing improvement in the Hawk kicking game. Cutting Dickson would be a huge mistake.

Just have the backup QB do it. Then if it's a bad snap, you can pass it to someone.

I am all for having young McGough do it, he ought to have good enough hands to catch the ball, and a good chance for him to getting involved instead of just standing holding a clipboard.

There not going to cut Dickson over holding duties. It's just spin being that we just started training camp and they want to play off the always compete mantra. Dickson is the future for the punting position and the top brass knows it.

If anything they should have let Ryan go so he could field offers for his services with other teams now, instead of making him go thru this nonsense. Sometimes PC takes the compete mantra too far.

I agree. They should give him an opportunity to catch on somewhere else

McGough held for placekicks in college. He should definitely be in the mix. Keep the better punter unless both McGough and Dickson are terrible at holding.

That would be something if our 1st round draft pick doesn't start and the punter they traded up for gets cut lol.
