They weren't rewarded. They were moved back 5 yards and the previous play didn't count

How were they rewarded? They moved the ball back 5 yards. They were blowing the whistle prior to the snap. What would you rather they did? See the FG was missed and waive the dead ball foul? That's giving the refs more power in the outcome of the game.

I'll take your word for it, but I have watched thousands of games at all levels and can't recall a time I've seen either of those called.
