The draft just got much less interesting and now the team has to pick for need. Why not Montgomery?

Montgomery is nowhere near the receiver that Lockett is, and nowhere near the return guy that Lockett is.

This also screams Darrell Bevell pick trying to get the Harvin effect, one of the commentators said something about making the bubble screens a threat due to his quickness.

Watched his highlights and didn't see a single screen. Saw an excellent route runner that gets separation, something Seattle has really lacked. Sets up his blocks very well on returns.

Because they commented on it.

If you weren't aware, Lockett is also a gunner, and we need one with Jeremy Lane likely out for the season.

I like the pick.

special teamers can be had in later rounds ie Jeremy Lane 6th round pick.

Actually, I don't know of any gunner in the NFL who was also the #1 PR and the #1 KR in college. He's also ALREADY a great route runner...this kid could end up being a Pro Bowler.
Not as a wide receiver. I think he'll be a good player that can fulfill many different roles, but I don't think he'll ever be a 1000 yard receiver, especially in this offense.

Dude you don't need to be a 1,000 yard receiver to be a great player in Seattle. You need to make the big plays when they count. Reason Seattle has been successful is everyone's working as a unit, nobody is out to get their stats. Kearse has made 3 memorable catches that will go down in history of this organization and the NFL. Guy makes the plays when they count. Thats all Lockett has to be, a gamer, when the ball is going to him in big time situations, you make that play.

Whether or not he gets 1,000 is irrelevant to if he is/can be a great player.

Another pick I dislike. Lockett is a very good return man but I don't think he offers anything that we don't already have in the passing game. We need a big receiver that can box out defenders and dominate them on jump balls. Yeah, we have Jimmy Graham, but I think we needed another threat on the outside that can accomplish this.

Lockett looks like a one trick pony to me, when I've seen him it looks like he mostly runs post, and go routes. He just seems to blow past guys in college, but in the NFL will he be able to do this? As a Wide Receiver we have a couple of players that have a similar skillset, color me unimpressed by this pick.

Everyone wants to sleep on Chris Matthews. I get that it was one game, but he looked really good. Maybe, just maybe, the coaches know that Matthews has solidified a spot on this team and will be a big part of the passing game.

Graham = 6'7" and a TE only by tradition.
Matthews = 6'5"
Kearse = 6'1 or so.
Norwood = 6'2"

Might be an inch off on Kearse and Norwood.

I don't understand what the love fest is with big receivers when we have some guys that definitely play that part. It's quite obvious that Pete values guys that can get the ball and do some things in space. When you really look at our roster, there's plenty of length in the passing game. It's true that a couple of those guys are largely unproven, but so are draft picks.

I was on the DGB love train too, but I feel completely solid with the Lockett pick, and what we gave up to get him.

He's going to be great for us.

I agree, plus he has the ability to get open deep now, without having to wait for Richardson to recover fully.

the trade was pretty consistent with the draft position value chart. They needed a return guy, they got the best one available. Ty Montgomery went later in the third and is a much less finished product as a receiver. PFF said besides Amari, Lockett was graded the most productive WR in 2014. DGB and even Funchess were long gone by #63 or #69, and if you take Strong and Montgomery is gone, the kick/punt returner spot carries more risk with the 2 best draft options gone... and the mediocre 2014 results in the Seahawks return game showed that mattered.

5'10" is not small, he is just not big, 5'5 or 5'4 is small.

As someone who is slightly above those numbers I thank you!

Really though, I have 100% faith in the front office that's sent us to 2 super bowls in a row. It seems like every draft people think the Seahawks are crazy but when you look back a year or two later they are brilliant drafts.

I am concerned about his small frame and small hands. For a team concerned with ball security, those things usually do not spell punt returner.

No, he's too skinny-assed to exploit his speed in the NFL. He'll be a great return specialist,though, hopefully. I think it's a great trade-up if he's good. It's something that we need, and will upgrade the team, especially if he takes one to the house occasionally. I can't wait for preseason!

Would you pass on Antonio Brown or T.Y. Hilton? Because they are the same size.

The more I know about this player the less I dislike the pick. As can be seen above when he was picked I was less than overwhelmed but Pn'J know what they want and Lockett so far has shown some skill in OTA work. I sure hope he's as talented a WR as he is a returner and that his returning talent proves out as a pro player. If so we finally have a replacement for Tate.

He's small, but he's fast a heck with great short area quickness, he displayed strong hands in college.

Me too . . . his body type looked a lot more sturdy at OTAs than he did on film. I'm excited to see him in action.

Lockett should get our special teams ranked in the top-8 in the NFL. Also, he is the eventual replacement of Baldwin as the slot WR.

I hope they nix the idea of him as a gunner. NOT a great idea.

Why is him as a gunner a bad idea? We are missing Lane who usually fills the other gunner slot.

Depends on how much he is worked into the regular offense.

I think the other gunner will be one of our other rookies. Either (S) Ryan Murphy who is a big hitter and has good speed, he ran a 4.48 40; or (CB) Tye Smith. No need to overwork Lockett when we have a couple other rookies who can do just as good a job if not better as gunners.

Any doubts I had about this player prior to the draft and as result of the picks trade are totally erased. He is going to be special!!!

Wow, has he got jets!

40+ on one return, 105 and a TD on the next.

Now let's see if he can play WR too.

wow this was weird. WTF? and you pass on Strong?

If you've watched any of 'Hard Knocks' on HBO, Strong does not look good. So glad we took Lockett. He looks great as both a receiver and a returner.
