Earl was primarily holding out to be traded. His current contract was $58 million for 6 years. He probably asked for more, but what he really wanted was to go back to Texas.

The top NFL safety contract belongs to Eric Berry who is getting $78 million over 6 years. So Berry earns a little more per year ($13M vs. $10M), but Earl's deal is still one of the highest for his position.
Everybody's deal gets surpassed, usually within a single season. Nobody stays "highest paid" for very long.

Until TV revenue starts to decline, it will be interesting to see if things have reached their peak level, all the rule changes and Officials botching games have tainted things a bit for historical fans. Think it is part of the reason to legalize gambling, the hope is draw more parties that have a stake in things to a viewership.

Wonder what JS is thinking now. Could of had a second rounder, now nothing. Hawks suck at playing poker.

Why do people keep repeating this when it's not true? John Clayton said "It's not true."

IIRC, it was recommended to Earl that he get surgery to fix that broken leg and he chose not to. Not getting surgery left it weak, and susceptible to breaking again because the doctors wanted to put a steel rod in it, like they did with Tyler Lockett.
