It's a 5th round pick from New England, which means its coming near the very end of the 5th round. So Minimal compensation for a guy like Marsh with some pass rush ability, but better than nothing if Seattle was going to cut him anyway. I'd rather have kept Marsh personally as you can never have enough pass rush depth.

Marsh is so overrated by some people. The guy has 3 career sacks, pretty sure he has more roughing penalties than sacks. He's nothing more than a special teamer. A late 5th and Coleman (or a 7th however you view it) is a more than solid return.

As far as pass rish depth, the guys we kept over him showed much more ability, plus Sheldon Rishardson...so...

Special teams are so underrated by some people.

Hybrid specialists are so underrated by some people.

Sacks as an exclusive definer of pass rush value is so overrated by some people who exclude the value of hits, pressures, forced interceptions, forces fumbles, ect.

Not underrating his value as a special teamer, we received a 5th and 7th for that ability. Thats a more thn fair return. Its not like he's an all-pro special teamer, he was pretty good. We can get 2 pretty good special teamers with those picks.

As far as the sacks are concerned, you're right thats not the best way to rate a pass rusher. But when your sack total is that low, its a pretty good indicator that youre just not very good. When you get called for roughing more often than you get a sack, thats not good.

A 5th and a 7th for Marsh. So that's a future Sherman and Carson in exchange for a present Marsh? Pete & John, keep on, keeping on!!!!

We will have to agree to disagree about Marsh's pass rush ability, as despite his low sack numbers, I often saw Marsh running after the quarterback and forcing incompletions and recovering fumbles in his limited plays on the field. I think his pass rush ability is underrated by Seahawks fans because he has low sack numbers and a couple of his sacks were unfortunately actually wiped out of his stats because he incurred "roughing the passer" penalties.

Regardless, it was a good trade if the Seahawks were determined to cut him anyway. I think Marsh will have a decent year for New England and net them a 6th round compensation pick when he leaves in free agency.

So ...... it all comes down to the value an individual poster assigns to player attributes and how those attributes fit with the annual changes to a team's makeup.

With regards to under appreciated, most fans are unaware of the impact of Clint Hurtt. John Schneider has gone all out and continues to go all out to get Clint the personnel he needs to become the best that he can be as Seattle's new defensive line coach. Clint Hurtt is under the radar of most fans. With regards to Marsh, he was replaced with better fits to leverage Clint Hurtt's new line. It wasn't about who is better ... it is all about team fits. The future draft compensation(s} was a bonus ..... all gravy.

As a side note, officials also go thru a preseason. And, they go from tightly called games to lightly called games as the season progresses on into the post season. Because of that, the tendencies of officials are included in team scouting reports during the season. It is a scouting effort under appreciated by most fans.

I'll finish with this thought ...... IMO ...... the biggest under appreciated and largely undetected addition to the 2017 defense is ...... Clint Hurtt. Clint is the driving force of change on the line of scrimmage. Perhaps that onion can be peeled in another thread someday. :2thumbs:

Seattle traded a high character player to a team that recognizes high character players. Steady player who always delivered solid effort. Nope not a star but a guy that the team could depend upon.

I wish Cassius nothing but the best in NE and than him for his time here. The Pats certainly thought he was worth more than a low level scrub as many posters here did. With luck it's a win win for both teams.

Anyone still think we will miss Marsh after watching his NE debut?

Another typical performance of almost making plays, penalties, and getting burned big time.

A 5th and 7th for him is a steal IMO. I'm glad he finally really helped us last night. :2thumbs:

I do not believe that the goal of seahawks.net has become that of a depository to trash players and coaches and the Seahawk mission.

To be fair, it's only been a week since he was traded to the Pats. So he's not acclimated to their system yet. He played more than probably they had envisioned since Hightower got hurt. The Pats whole defense played poorly yesterday. They gave up over 500 yards of offense to the Chiefs.

Agree.

That is why I'm trashing another teams player....or didn't you notice that? :irishdrinkers:
