Is that going to be your criteria for whether or not Pete and John are successful in the future? Easy bet to make - that one of 32 NFL teams won't make the Super Bowl. Really setting yourself up for the ultimate toldyaso, aren't you.

Well when it's make or break on one proven guy and you don't have to include Injuries, bad officiating, bad signings in other positions it's easy.

He will NEVER sign.... :D

Seriously, weve seen Pete and JS work magic for years with great results. I can't understand people that don't think they can't keep doing it with this contract. 90 miil in cap next year and 11 draft choices?....I'll take it

Lol what the hell is that? Course it's not my money. Were the resources there for the packers when they paid him the highest and the cap continued to go up? This is circular nonsense. You're happy you got your player. Great! If there is no superbowl ring, the scenario is a complete failure that went away from the model that actually worked for them. Time will tell. JS and PC have 5 years to prove it.

What a load of crap that is!!

Between 2010 and 2012 we drafted 7 pro bowl caliber players!!
Wilson, Wagner, Chancellor, Baldwin, Thomas, Okung, Sherman (then picked up 2 more in FA Avril, Bennett).

That is the winning formula, saving money on 7 huge picks all across the roster!! Putting all this in Wilson's basket to keep that going with any less stellar drafts then 7 top picks is completely ridiculous!! :177692:

The target on JS was stated, Mr. Crapload. That's the only way it happens now. JS and Pete have to hit on draft magic again.

Championships are the goal, yeah? If you call the goal "setting yourself up" then there are other issues.

Then quit trying to tie the ring to Wilson. Without similar draft magic, there is no fair comparison to call it "a complete failure".

This.

It's a 32 team league. The odds that the Seahawks (or any other particular team) win the Super Bowl in the next 5 years is very low no matter what they do. The odds still would have been very low if they had traded Russell for a massive haul of draft picks.

There are a thousand different things that could go wrong that don't have anything to do with Russell or his contract that could prevent this team from winning another Super Bowl, and a whole helluva lot has go just right over the course of an entire season and post season to win a Super Bowl.

It's completely absurd that some of you seem to have already decided that if we don't win another Super Bowl in the next 5 years it's because of signing Russell to this extension.

We won the SB with RW on a rookie contract. I'm not sure about the argument of money being equated with a super bowl win. I get the obvious roster and money allotted but I hate to use the NE comparison, but it's obvious that a team can overcome the large QB contract.

Wilson IS tied to it. You can't have it both ways. Tgis is a tipping point for the franchise. It will either work or it won't anf JS and PC have their work cut out for them more than ever.

The Seahawks won't win the Super Bowl, (with or without Wilson), if they don't hit on their picks. Hitting on the picks likely still wouldn't be enough without a QB of Wilson's quality.

A 4 year $140M extension is the sort of figure most fans should have been expecting.

He is a part of it!! 1 of 7 (top picks are still required!...not just starters) = 14% not 100% like you attempted to pass off on anyone willing to read.

I didn't attempt to "pass off" percentages of anything. This is like some weird self projection, dude. It's not personal for me like it is for so many of you. Wilson ties up a lot of money now and is connected to the overall success of the team that now has drastically less resources for JS and PS to succeed with. If they get a ring, they've succeeded. If they don't, they've failed. That is the nature of the game and it's really that simple.

Not necessarily, no. He wasn't all that in 2013. The scenario is changed, yes, but you can't really make an empirical rule out of that. He's a better passr now vs then, but outside of that....

Eight stacked teams get into the postseason every year. They can't all win. The standard of NFL success is to be playing in January - let's say even making the divisional round. Beyond that, you can't assign a Lombardi trophy as the only standard of success.

You've made too many smart posts on this board to think that your above logic is any way useful.

How much were we paying Rice, Harvin, Miller, Mebane, you forget that as one contract is a bargain other contracts go up and need to be paid.

IF Y'AINT FIRST, YOU'RE LAST, BOBBY!

But seriously...no. I can't. Moral victories are for Disney cartoons. Helps build character and all that, but eventually you grow up and want to be the champ. If you're going to anty up all that dough for for something less than the goal that the entirely of the team has then there's no point in making it rain in the first place. The funny thing is, I don't have strong feelings about this contract, but Russ himself would agree with me, given all his various spiels about greatness. I find that ironic. Really though, the odds may be stacked, but I hope he, Pete, and John can all prove they were right.

but one thing is clear Wilson wants to be paid and it's not in his interest to sign a deal this season only to see his contract get dwarfed in a few months.

NW Seahawk has walked the bases loaded on 12 straight pitches.

He will wait now and let this play out until he can negotiate with other teams this gives him higher earning potential and more options.

NW Seahawk kicks, fires... Here's a swing and a drive out to left field and deep. And it is gone.

So NW Seahawk is off to a rocky start after 1 swing of the bat (reality). And hasn't gotten anybody out.

Hit the showers kid.
