I'm all for getting Deshaun for this very reason. I think that guy is special in a better system than Houston's

Nobody who was considered the favorite to be MVP halfway through a season should be considered "no longer good".

Even in this game, that TD pass Russell threw off balance, all-arm while making the play available with his scrambling was a pass you can count on two (maybe three) fingers guys in the league who could do it.

It's not even the O-line (who struggled today, no doubt). We schemed ourselves into losing situations, period. This is on Pete and, to a lesser extent, Schottenheimer.

Russ isn't the one who decided to run every drive with plays almost guaranteed to land us at 3rd and 4 or longer every time. Russ isn't the one who took the offense off the field at 4th and 1 multiple times during the game. Russ isn't the one who has a Pro-Bowl FB, one of the best RBs in the league at not going down on the first hit, but still thinks every run needs to be lined up as a shotgun draw even when the D KNOWS we are going to run instead of just letting his team just line up and get their dang yard.

I've never been the biggest Russell fan (partly because I can't stand his interview style, but mostly it's my unfair bias because I was a big Hasselbeck fan and didn't like the way Pete let him go and I kind of hold it against Russ for some mental reason I can't explain), but the idea that he's not still one of the best QBs in the NFL is ridiculous.

best QB in the NFC? lolololol. Give me Aaron Rodgers 10/10 times.

Rodgers WAS the best but not anymore. He's become a system quarterback and to his credit, has embraced it. He trusts the system which is why he was so efficient this year. Last year, he regressed significantly, and his numbers were almost IDENTICAL to Jimmy Garaopalo's numbers last year. Do you consider Jimmy G to be elite?

By the way, Russ did more in his first three years in the league than Rodgers did in his first six. After three years, Russ had taken us to two Super Bowls and won one, while Rodgers never saw the field while fetching Gatorade for Brett Favre. On top of that, when Rodgers finally got the job, he inherited a 13-3 team that was one play away from going to the Super Bowl, and that first year, they went 6-10.

Rodgers did have a better season than Russ, and i don't dispute that, but he is NOT the better player. Not now. We should learn from the Packers and make the necessary offensive changes now, and not waste Russell's prime years. Rodgers is playing well in this system, and this year may be his last chance to win a Super Bowl, with Jordan Love waiting in the wings. The Packers should have moved on from Mike McCarthy a long time ago, and prematurely closed their championship window in the process.

Carroll’s post game presser is quite insulting to fans, honestly.

For a guy that preaches always compete, how does doing the same thing over and over with a stale offensive game plan “competing?”

Carroll is the main problem.

As soon as Russell was given the reigns, Wilson was phenomenal, but Carroll took control of the offense cause his defense was putrid. He then put the restraints back on Wilson.

What’s the point of restricting the offense if the defense gets gassed?

The better play is to let the offense thrive and let the defense make their plays after they are rested.

Rodgers needed McCarthy to leave.

Wilson needs Carroll to leave.

A franchise will not kick their franchise QB to the curb unless the QB is aged, and/or broken injured beyond repair.

I’m a full supporter that the probability of Wilson succeeding without Carroll is higher than Carroll succeeding without Wilson.

Carroll needs to go because things are not going to get better.

It has been years and years of the same o same o.

Only a fool expects a change when doing same things over and over again.

Comparing Russ to Tom Brady, who just became one of the oldest active QB in the history of the NFL, provides an interesting contrast. Tom is 6 inches taller and quite thin and Russ has packed on the weight in the past two years to slow him down noticeably. It is highly unlikely that Russ will still be playing when he is 43.

Here's another important difference between Russ and Tom Brady:

https://www.businessinsider.com/tom-bra ... mel-2019-5

Tom took a lot less in salary and put ego aside for the good of his team. He recognized the financial aspect of the salary cap and said it was worth taking less money and paying for good players around him. The article mentioned the 35 million salary of Russ compared to the 15 million Tom was receiving.

As much as I didn't like the Patriots, I respect that Tom put his money where is mouth was.

I also like his modesty regarding publicity. I appreciate his dedication to football and not trying to glam it up with constant media contributions via social posts.

I'm a little annoyed with Russ's frivolity - perfumes, podcasts, clothing lines and the like. Even if it wasn't distracting, it says "me, me, me" and it's not a good look. Like the article says, "How much money do you really need?"

All true. I'm also going to say it. Russ's height is an issue. Now that he's slowed down and defenses have schemed for him, his height is starting to become a huge issue. Not hitting hot routes over the middle is devastating when facing a good D line. He can't hit slants. and teams have figured out how to attack outside routes while pressuring Russ and he and Pete haven't adjusted in the slightest.

The problem with what you are saying is even 6 foot 2+ QBs need throwing lanes. Th eline man are 6 foot 5 so no QB shorter than 6 foot 6 can see without lanes, let alone throw.
6ft-2to6 is a big difference than 5ft8-10 the OL-DL
are not standing up straight but the QB is and he can
see the field/lanes better the taller he is..Those are
the facts Jack.
Might as well edit an article in here for you/others

Not only is Russ the best quarterback in the NFC, we need to double down on the LRC movement and let him call his own plays. He is, in effect, our best offensive coordinator. His ability to read a defense pre-snap is on par with Peyton Manning in his prime, and for the sake of the franchise and to extend our championship window, we need to provide him with more tools to do so.

Stop trying to chop down a tree with an axe, and use the damn chainsaw.

This is where I disagree this is the one thing he lacks the ability to read the defenses Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Rivers and the list goes on some better then others He's no where close to a Peyton Manning what ever gave you that Ideal? has an option to change a play I would think at the LOS he should be able to call out protection like Brady, Manning hot reads on Blitz's.
Manning is he should Hire for his QB coach learn from one of the best but not the choking part of Manning game I think he would become the best QB in the league. I have no ideal on what it takes to get a defense to jump but Russ does not have it he gets our own line to jump more then anything how does Rodgers make it look so simple.

Russell is good.

Just no longer great under Pete.

But the only hope we have is that he can be great under someone else.

This team needs Mike Holmgren level dedication to the offensive line.

Did y'all see how the ******* Browns backups man handled the Stealers!?

They made Baker look like an all pro.

Looks like Brady and the Patriots had you fooled. It's OK, they fooled a lot of people.

And here is my response in that thread to the question "Should Russell Wilson Take A Tom Brady Like Deal?"

Chapow":9frjauqi said:
Sure, and then the Seahawks should just do what the Patriots do with Tom Brady since apparently that's completely fine.

The Patriots, in an unusual departure from National Football League practice, have created a revenue stream for a private business owned by their franchise quarterback, Tom Brady, and a partner who faced federal sanctions after falsely presenting himself as a medical doctor and deceptively promoting nutritional supplements.

The NFL says it is aware of the arrangement and has taken no action, despite questions from some specialists in sports law and economics about whether teams should pay for services by for-profit companies owned by their active players and whether the relationship provides value to Brady that should be counted against the club’s salary cap.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015 ... story.html

Just sign Wilson to a way below market value contract but pay companies he owns for their "goods and services" however much the difference would be between his contract and his actual market value.

What?

You all thought Brady was actually playing for far below his market value so that the Patriots would have more money to pay other players, thus making it possible to field a better team and have a better shot a championships out of the goodness of his heart? Or because he cares about winning more than making his full market value?

Nope. Brady is still getting his. And with this "arrangement" nobody really knows how much he is getting from the Patriots. And apparently the NFL doesn't care.

Gotta wonder how that would go over with the NFL if the Texans tried pulling that with Watson, or the Chiefs tried it with Mahomes, or the Seahawks tried it with Russ.

You're right about one thing though, Tom Brady is a very smart man. He's got a lot of people fooled. :2thumbs:

In regards to your closing comment

I guess the answer is over half a billion dollars.

"As of last January, Fox Business estimated Brady’s net worth at $180 million. As astounding as that may seem, consider the fact his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, is said to be worth more than double that. Estimates put Bundchen’s reported net worth at $400 million, meaning the couple together is worth more than a half a billion dollars."

https://thespun.com/nfl/nfc-south/tampa ... %20dollars.

Some people clearly don't watch football. But feel free to keep convincing yourself he isn't a good QB.

What’s the definition of good? He’s a completely serviceable Elite Game Manager. That is good enough if you have an Elite Supporting Cast. Just because he is not/can’t be elite, doesn’t mean he’s bad...it just means that he can never be great. He is good when you have pieces around him and don’t ask him to do too much

So who's fault was this? Pete or Schotty's?

This happened far to manytimes to count this year. Every game is full of them, starting with the first loss to Arizona. Russ either cant, or wont throw timing routes, hots, close to the line or crossers and defenses know it. They've given us that oart of the field week after week and even when the plays are there, we dont pull the trigger.

I'm starting to believe that he can't even see them due to lack of height.

He can, because Baker and Brees can.

24 seconds left in the half, on the 20 yard line, and as usual we nitpick 2 snaps out of 50 or more to drive a narrative. Take a screenshot of the O-line struggles next.

The scheme dictates reading the deep route first. Checking it down there with that little time left in the half accomplishes nothing. We are not a dink and dunk offense and Russ is not instructed to dunk and dunk

We’re making up terms to diminish Wilson now. That’s adorable.

What elite supporting cast does Wilson have? The O-line? The best offensive coordinator in the NFL?

Are you suggesting he’s never shown he can carry bad or average defenses?

Are you suggesting he’s never won games, with massive team injuries?

What makes other QBs elite, as opposed to Russell? Let’s debate facts, not your emotions. Let’s compare film and videos.

I'm done talking about this tired subject.

They don’t like him, it’s that simple. Maybe it’s his height, maybe it’s political. But it’s not about facts, never was.

I remember when Josh Rosen was drafted and played a game against us. At least two people here talked about what he had that Wilson didn’t. Gushed about him, how smart as a whip he was and how much he had the “qualities” of a QB. That is when I realized some of this isn’t about football. They flat out don’t want to see anything good in Wilson

Russ bulks up to prevent injury. He’s not “fat.” Seriously the comments towards him are getting gross. No respect for him as a human being. A human being that invests a lot in his body.

Russell's a fantastic football player. He's dedicated, a born baller, clutch and tough as hell..........but he has limitations.

I compare Russell to a point guard, he NEEDS to get into that confidence, rhythm and tempo in order to be at his best. Good defenses like the Rams know how to get him out of his comfort zones and take away all the things he likes to do.

Plain and simple. Doesn't mean he's no longer a good QB, just means Pete's right and you can't just put the game on his shoulders and "let Russ cook." That's really what Pete was saying yesterday, in order to take advantage of what Russell does well, which is play action and make explosive plays downfield then we DESPERATELY need a punch you in the mouth physical effective run game to suck those safeties down and tire out these really good front sevens.

Now is this worth 35M a year when what Pete's talking about could probably be done by 20 other QB's in the league which would allow us far more cap space to build a better defense and O-line in order to run the rock? Hard for me to say, but yes probably.

I never watched Pete's pressers but I did this one on youtube I for one am surprised I need to pull back post on Russ he made it sound like he lives and dies by the bomb if they have a two high safety he doesn't want to change the game plan he said we thought we could still get in a few, I said Russ needs to take what the D gives him but what I guess I should've said is Pete needs to take what the Defense gives him.
