And a HUGE big deal is making these incredibly stupid pre snap penalties which just give us long 3rd down conversions and we haven't been doing well on 3rd down even without the boneheaded plays being made.

If we clean those up I believe that we convert more first downs.

For all the angst going on around here you'd think the Hawks were having terrible problems. Hawks have scored more points then any other team in the NFC west. Only 4 teams in the NFC have scored more points than the Hawks. Do you hear anyone talking about Cardinals having a crappy offensive scheme? Are there any FIRE the OC threads on their forums?

2 plays make the difference in this team being 5-3 or 7-1 in the first half. 3rd and 20 against Dallas and a fake punt against the Rams. I stated earlier in this thread that if we just play 5% better we'll go 7-1 in the second half. After looking at some more numbers I think that might only need to be 3.6%.

The simple reality is that we have a play action offense designed to get wide receivers into one on ones by freezing safeties and linebackers with play action, but we don't have wide receivers who can consistently win one on ones.

Well, while that is true it would be nice to think that our masterminds pull some rabbits out from time to time.

But said rabbits must catch the ball when it hits their hands.

While Russ has been off on some, he is perfect on others. Kinda weird but can change.

But we do/did have some guys that are good at making contested catches. Baldwin and Tate.

We're going to get back to our offensive identity and run Marshawn up the middle 20 times. At the same time we'll open up the running game by throwing deep, and we're also going to mix CMike in to make use of his explosiveness. Lots of bunch formations and quick interior slants to show that we know what those are; Wilson can throw to a spot if he can't see Baldwin. The key will be for Wilson to trust his protection and hang around in the pocket while the plays develop, as well as for him to roll out of the pocket while the plays develop. Absolutely no bubble screens or screen passes behind the line of scrimmage, unless they end up working.

You don't need to throw a ball 40 yds in the air, with the line suspect a double on one side and a slant with a deep route on the other side will get a receiver in space that can get YAC and bust one. We don't run the slant enough and open up that play. It was the bread and butter of the old 49ers with Rice, something I think Richardson could excel at with his burst and speed.
