Hi From an Eagles Fan..

I promised in the defensive thread that I'd post some numbers for everyone.

I'm a numbers kinda girl so i love analyzing things like this.

I found these stats that I thought you might like, as it breaks it down by plays.

Eagles Offensive Plays - 875
Eagles Defensive Plays Against- 821
Seattle Offensive Plays - 746
Seattle Defensive Plays Against - 699
Number of Eagles Offensive Drives - 155
Number of Eagles Defensive Drives Against - 162
Number of Seattle Offensive Drives - 129
Number of Seattle Defensive Drives Against - 127
Percentage of Eagles Offensive Drives Resulting in Points - 38.1%
Percentage of Seattle Offensive Drives Resulting in Points - 43.3%
Percentage of Eagles Defensive Drives Resulting in Points Against - 27.8%
Percentage of Seattle Defensive Drives Resulting in Points Against - 30.7%

Average Drive Info
Eagles Offense Starts at Own 30.5
TOP - 2:09
Plays Per Drive - 5.83
Yards per Drive - 32.0
Points Per Drive - 1.97
Seahawks Offense Starts at Own 31.9
TOP - 2:58
Plays Per Drive - 6.02
Yards per Drive - 33.6
Points Per Drive - 2.20
Eagles Defense Starts at Own 25.6
TOP - 2:23
Plays Per Drive - 5.2
Yards per Drive - 27.0
Points Per Drive - 1.60
Seattle Defense Starts at Own 25.5
TOP - 2:42
Plays Per Drive - 5.7
Yards per Drive - 27.0
Points Per Drive - 1.61

If you look at the numbers, Seattle actually scores on a higher percentage of drives than Philly does, as we tend to be boom or bust and go 3 and out as well. This lowers our averages. But on the flip side, if you look at our defensive numbers, we actually have a lower percentage of drives that result in points than Seattle does. We also allow less points per drive. Our defensive TOP is pretty low, as we force a lot of 3 and outs. We allow less plays per drive than Seattle as a result. Since our O plays really fast as well, this results in a bunch of possessions for both teams. Inflating the overall points numbers on both sides of the ball.

Hope this helps.

Great information. Thank you, fef, for this insight. It seems both teams are evenly matched based on the numbers. Should be a good game on Sunday.

Thanks for sharing. Couple of questions from me.

Do you prefer Tom Hanks' Sleepless in Seattle or Philadelphia? And Why?

Also, does fef stand for female eagles fan, fit es fcuk or falsely effeminate fellow?

Cool stats. They support the eye test that this is going to be an awesome matchup. Immovable objects and unstopable forces all over this one.

Taking it further, Chip Kelly is into conditioning and sports science and really has these guys in shape. I would have thought they would have tired out by this time of the season from all the extra conditioning and physical practices but they haven't

In other words, the game I expected to see on Thanksgiving with the 49ers: gritty, physical, heavy defensive game and lots of hustle and effort on D and special teams... that's the game I expect to see against Philly.

Seahawks need their A+ game
Good stuff. My gut is echoing your sentiment about this being the game we thought the 9ers matchup was going to be when they released the schedule.

Also, speaking of practices, how many national writers and TV folks have come to Seahawks practices for the first time and remarked about how fast they practice? Answer: a lot. I'd be surprised to see our guys gassed, despite the frenetic pace of Philly's offense. The trick is avoiding 3-and-outs when we have the ball.

Getting PUMPED & JACKED for this one!

Looking at those numbers it's pretty even but I do think it will turn out very similar to Philadelphia v San Francisco the key will be not to let you get a bunch of plus special teams plays. And for Seattle not to do a bunch of 3 and outs thereby letting Philadelphia up the tempo. Seattle needs to keep the ball in 5-6 minute chunks and score (FG's or TD's) and let Philadelphia do 2-3 three and outs so that we are dictating the tempo.

I'm actually not registered on the eagles boards.. I feel no need to discuss the game with other eagles fans, I know how we feel. :) I like to learn what the opposing team thinks.

Being lazy and not wanting to check for myself, how do those numbers relate to strength of schedule? Seems like everythings pretty close.....but maybe thats misleading.
