I am 100% the fire Bevell club. BUT on Sunday, September 17th, 2017 125 PST (1325 for those 24-hour clock types) Bevell was not the problem. The parts of the game that Bevell could control worked. The Seahawks had a plan, attack new DE's with rollouts and quick passes. Bevell ran a good mix of plays and attacked the 49ers D at different levels all game. But why did it look like crap? Drops killed this team on Sunday and Bevell can't control that. This games score looks completely different if they don't drop those chain moving 3rd down passes or drop those TD passes in the first half. The Bevell part of the game Sunday worked but it also illustrates what frustrates me about Bevell, he had these plays and concepts week one why did he not bust them out then? Pete and Bevell want to control the ball and win every game 28-7 (i.e. one TD per qtr) with long drives that eat up clock and take the life out of the opponent. The game plan that was put into place this past Sunday was one that can be replicated and refined to get this offense to level it needs to get to.
SIDE NOTES:
The Seahawks ran 40 plays in the first half. They ran 48 plays total in week one.
This week was the first opening drive that ended in a score since week 13 of 2016.
Russell Wilson has a really hard time playing in the rain. His third qtr was awful he was overthrowing open receivers. Once it stopped raining in the 4th qtr he got his throws under control. The rainy games that stick out to me in recent years are 2013 vs. Arizona (11/27 and less than 100 net yards passing) a game in which Palmer threw 4 int's, the playoff rematch vs. New Orleans (9/18 for 103 yards), 2014 vs. the 3-13 Oakland (17/35 for under 200 yards), 2014 vs. NY Giants (10/17 with 2 INTs made up for it was 107 yards rushing), and 2015 vs. St. Louis (committed two fumbles and threw a pick).
