The three wise men from the desert of sin, Brady (the GOAT), Carroll (inventor of PeteBall), and Kelly (the mad scientist), decided on bady Geno as the savior of the Raiders.

Pete's on a 3-year "shot clock"... so I'm not surprised by his ability to convince Brady (and Kelly?) that trading for Geno was the team's best play.

The disaster of the Ryan Grubb era continues to unfold on into 2025.
If Pete didn't try the ill-fated Clint Hurtt/Fangio-style defense experiment in 2022 and we had married that top 10 offense with the top 10 defense we had in 2021...

If we tried an experienced NFL OC in 2024 and we had managed to keep our top 10 2023 offense going into 2024 with our new top 10 defense...

It's interesting to see how these decisions reverberate. Coordinator hires and fires have some really meaningful repercussions that sometimes you can only see in retrospect.

Either Pete was heck of a snake oil seller or Geno Smith is the second best bridge QB in the current market

Umm that selling of Grubb to a young Macdonald by his boss Schneider.

At this point, without MLB, QB, WR1 and WR3, the headwind may just be a bit strong to talk Myles into joining us.
- Dremont Jones' contract was comparable to what Earnest Jones will get.
- A year of Justin Fields vs Sam Howell will cost $7-9M
- DK Metcalf is under contract.
- Bobo or Dareke Young are our WR3, which is interesting because they are both big guys, so when they come in, it may be outside so JSN can play out of the slot. Also, I imagine we'll be using a lot more 12 personnel, so 3-4 WR sets may not be as common as we've seen in the past.

So yeah, we'll have cap space to get Myles, but who or what would we trade?

21 pages of this thread and no post from Geno's biggest supporter.

Hope it doesnt hurt too badly when Geno flourishes in a real NFL offense and behind a competent NFL O-line and running backs who actually contribute to the success of the offense.

Try selling the above to Myles who is looking for ring.

Again why is everyone sooo against Darnold yet wants fields at the same age.. with lesser stats? I just don't get it. With a decent defense you still net 7 to 8 wins... still a terrible draft spot for a qb next year.... Everyone wanting these first round QBs, that over the years have panned out to nothing is odd.
Because Fields is a year younger with 4 years of ever-improving stats, and Darnold has been in the league for 7 years and his only decent year has been on a loaded team throwing to Justin Jefferson.

Tomlin named Wilson the preseason starter and there was pushback removing Fields once he was healthy. Darnold was let go for JJ McCarthy, a guy who's never thrown an NFL pass coming off a knee injury.

Fields is going to demand a salary in the $7-9M range. Darnold is going to demand $40M+.

MM has said time and time again he wants to play complementary football. He doesn't want to throw it 50 times a game. He would rather run 30 and throw 30. Look at how Baltimore has looked for the last 20 years. They are not putting up 50-burgers every week and yet they are the 4th winningest franchise over that same time period.

I was fine with Geno Smith staying on as QB, my biggest grievance with him is he wouldn't leave the pocket, and when he ran he'd flop instead of using his athleticism to avoid contact and pick up more yardage. Fields will make you pay when he scrambles. I respect that.

Nabbing #92 for Geno, I’d still be cool with letting DK go to the Chargers and getting #55/#86

#18 - Donovan Ezeiruaku (EDGE, Boston College)

#50 - Quinn Ewers (QB, Texas)

#55 (LAC) - Jayden Higgins (WR, Iowa State)

#82 - Jonah Savaiinaea (G, Arizona)

#86 (LAC) - Jackson Hawes (TE, Georgia Tech)

#92 (LV) - Denzel Burke (CB, Ohio State)

#137 - Nazir Stackhouse (DT, Georgia)

#173 - Nick Martin (LB, Oklahoma State)

#187 - Robert Longerbeam (CB, Rutgers)

#212 - Hunter Wohler (S, Wisconsin)

#236 - Luke Kandra (G, Cincinnati)

The Vikes did not have a great o-line last year. Sam's failure in the last two games was in part due to their o-line being completely unable to protect him.

They were a top 10 OLine overall with the 2nd best pass block win rate in the league.

"The Vikings’ numbers against the blitz looked a little worrisome (54.3% pressure rate; last), with Sam Darnold holding the ball for nearly three seconds (2.93; second-highest in the NFL).

Minnesota’s OL was better relative to the league when not facing the blitz, ranking just outside the top 20 in pressure rate (34.1%). This is further contextualized by a second-overall ranking in PBWR, which shows this line was better than the raw pressure and sack rate numbers showed — they were just being asked to do it for longer than most teams."

It wasn't just A bad game. It was two bad games in a row.

With the division championship on the line and home field advantage in the playoffs, he went 18/41 and no TDs. That game, with all it's playoff implications, was effectively a defacto playoff game and he stunk.

Then the very next game that WAS a playoff game, he throws a pick and fumbles the ball away that leads to a scoop and score and effectively puts the game out of reach. He goes 25/40 and 1 TD. Not good.

Darnold crapped the bed plain and simple. And he did it when his team needed him the most.

He's not the QB we need long term to take us to the SB. Good during the regular season but disappears in the big games.

No way I give that guy a long term deal and lock up a bunch of cap for him.
Well some peeps here think hes a huge upgrade
