Yes it is. Stop fooling yourself, this is the 10th overall pick. The chance for Seattle to get truly game breaking talent. Pete Carroll himself even used the excuse once "but we haven't been picking in the top of the draft". Well, now we are and we used in on Jamal Adams, a player that has been truly underwhelming here. Two members of our Super Bowl team, Okung and Thomas were high draft picks.

I think you overestimate the depth of quality at the top of this draft.

And the fact that even very high 1st round draft picks bust more often than they become "truly game breaking" players.

We have $53M in cap next year.

That's enough to sign DJ Reed, Diggs, Terron Armstead/Orlando Brown, AND Von Miller/Chandler Jones.

Throw in Stephon Gilmore (e.g.) if we cut Bobby...

I'm thinking we weren't worried whether our pick was 10th or 32nd this year when we traded for Adams.

Please point to some examples where we actually used our cap space to improve the team? PC prefers projects and players that sucked with other teams (because he is soooo much smarter HE can turn them around) and a cheap scattershot approach to things like our oline.

When was the last time we signed a first day top tier free agent? We traded for some but to pick up a real alpha when was that?

We need a left tackle and some talent along the interior of the defense. That tackle may be hard to find in the later rounds.

Yes, it sucks we don't get to use this 10th pick. But come on, look at the recent history in the 1st round.
They probably would have traded down and/or picked some dude nobody has ever heard of. Because you know, they gotta' be "different"

It was an overpay if Jamal had been good and the Jets got 2 low round firsts, a third, plus a starting free safety. Instead we got a mostly bad (in coverage) Jamal Adams and they got a top 10 pick. There is no way anyone can argue at this point that this trade was anything less than a complete swindle on the Jets side (Many thought this from the very beginning).
Saying we would screw up the picks has no bearing on whether or not the trade was sound. It was always a massive overpay for a strong safety. A position that is very easily replaceable and for which this team is massively overpaying as well. Terrible awful trade in every respect.

But getting mad about it every day doesn't change the fact that it's over and it happened. Nobody is saying it was a great trade.

Do you think they get someone as good as Adams with that pick? I don't. We just need a DC who knows how to use him. It's the Jimmy Graham situation all over again.

According to many on here, he's not really that good. :?
You know what they say about opinions.
I think he'll be amazing when used correctly. Think about it. We had the best 1-2 punch at WR and what did we do? Run, run, go deep. You can have the best hammer in the world, but it will suck at removing screws.

It's beside the point whether you think there will be an elite player available at #10, and I suspect many of you will change your minds on that point anyhow once draft day finally shows up. It's a very valuable asset, worth three mid second round picks even if you do want to trade down. Missing on players isn't a reason to de-value draft picks but rather the opposite - you need more picks if you want to hit more often.

A major reason why they traded so many picks for Adams in the first place is they felt that they could not get a player of his caliber where they were drafting at the end of the first round. It's very unfortunate that the season worked out like it did, and it does make the trade a terrible deal.

The Jimmy Johnson values may be outdated, but the NFL themselves publishes a shallower draft curve that fits how teams tend to value these picks compared to later ones, and the 10th overall pick alone is more valuable than our entire draft in most years.

Do you really think it matters?

Does anyone for a moment think that we would end up with an effective player at #10 anyway?

We would trade down, get 2-3 picks out of it and only one would pan out. That is generally how this has worked every draft day for over half a decade.

Or would we reach at #10, then get someone that is ok, but not great and was projected to go in the 2nd round anyway.

We have a few tremendous successes in the 1st but we swing and miss much more than we hit it out of the park.

Typically OL are the best high pick choices as many end up being good. Would have been nice to have the 10 for a LT

We kind of missed there also, Okung wasn't bad or a bust but came with a Glass Ankle and was frequently hurt.

Adams is a good person., but not a good safety.

I personally feel our defense looked better this year and last year.. sadly once he went down with season ending injuries

Doesn't matter. Old history.

Happy about today's performance. :2thumbs:
but it does matter.... It's going to and is going to significantly affect the Seahawks ability to build the roster in the future.

Its one pick... there is the rest of the draft which is significantly higher than where the hawks normally pick

Three straight trips to the Pro Bowl, and that whole NFL Record For Sacks By A Safety thing may beg the differ. Look, I get it. But I find myself wondering how the LOB would do under this DC.
