There seems to be trend to go for it on 4th down instead of punting for field position. I see this as result of “analytics “ in recent years plus coaches not trusting their defense __ often for good reasons.

Good point. That almost never happened. My old high school coach would roll over in his grave had he seen how many times teams went for it on fourth down. I've seen teams punt on 3rd and 8, an end-over-end quick kick. As a matter of fact, I can remember Mike Ditka whining about getting beat by the Seahawks on a high school play when the Hawks executed a quick kick that resulted in about a 70 yard change in field position, bouncing on the rock hard Kingdome Astro Turf.
