Don't be surprised if it's a D line pick. Kenneth Grant or Walter Nolan. The top guards are all 2nd rounders. Ratledge, Booker etc. can all be had in the 2nd and later rounds. it's unlikely their first pick will be OL. So, I don't want to hear any caterwauling. Could be a skill guy too that falls unexpectedly. a QB or a top WR, Golden could definitely be there at 18. If I was a betting man its going to be a defensive pick.
This is a solid prediction. The chatter you glean everywhere has "solid" O-line guys available in the second round. BPA with 18 or a specific player the Team has fallen in love with is fine by me as long as we pay attention to the OL to some extent in the draft.

Yep, you and John sure have the same mindset. Booker is not going in the 2nd and I am not suggesting drafting a OG rated for the 2nd round. Besides, do you really think any guard that's appeared in 1st round mocks will fall to #50/52?
I'm talking about one of the elite, versatile OL and even trade up to do it and plug in at LG with the ability to slide to LT later.

The defense will be fine without using that #18 on it. BTW, I support using 3 of our top 5 picks on the OL
just not our 1st.
Maybe you & John should share a fifth of tequila, have a couple Fireball shots and a few Canadian beers and hit the chukar hill early while leaving the dogs at home.
LOL. Because that's the position you'll be in if the cupboard is bare of shotgun shells in the 2nd.
Better hurry, There's a bunch cacklin' at the top of the hill & the few in front of ya are running fast uphill. Might have to ground sluice em'. Waiting for a good hatch sometimes takes a few years.
John's more of a pay to hunt pheasant hunter who for the last several years has been too cheap to pay the guide service and opts to chase quail behind his house.
I guess we'll see but if this OLine doesn't get fixed, chasing birds on Sunday will be the better option.

People will disagree but I would love a blue chip defensive player or receiving option at TE/WR and then double up on IOL with the two picks in the 50’s. I think people are underestimating what Kubiak will do to help the line and even in the 50’s I think you can get 1-2 guys who are an immediate upgrade.

Our draft was trash last year. Bustron Murphy over Verse looks like the next Eskridge over Creed Humphrey. He was clearly not even the best Texas DT in that draft, and that better teammate outshone him last year. "The Next Aaron Donald" had a whole half-sack last year, which granted, was a half-sack more than Schneider shows in free agency, but he wasn't remotely promising. Haynes was one of the league's worst guards. Our only good pick was a fourth-round TE whose ceiling is probably "Pro Bowl alternate". Anyone expecting the OL to get magically fixed in this draft hasn't been paying attention.

They have put themselves on a position where they can forget BPA and just have to pick the o-line guy who happens to be available.

It would be an absolute shocker to see Schneider select an IOL in the first round. Just don't see that happening. Wouldn't be much less of a shocker seeing it happen in the second round for that matter. Although this seems like the draft it could happen.

My guess is they'll take a defensive player with a slight chance of TE at #18. Tyler Warren will most likely be off the board it sounds like, could be Loveland who sure sounds a lot like Jimmy Graham to me.

If they take a WR or TE at 18 its a wasted pick IMO. JS should be addressing the biggest need first and Zabel would fill that need. Wouldnt be to disappointed with a pick on the defense side of the ball. As i said before my two choices are Zabel or Nick Emanuari, in that order.
