WWE XFL is coming to Seattle. I'm 50/50 on it. I don't know how the fans here are going react to this when the season kicks off in Feb. 2020 at C-Link. Coach Carroll is fired up about this.

They have their own streaming platform, and it's an offshoot of an already profitable business. So they can at least in theory bleed longer than a startup like the AAF. We'll see though, I don't see a sustainable enough market for these leagues to be successful.

So, Seattle Dragons is what they landed on huh? Ok... I guess it's not terrible, but definitely far from great.

It may have a niche here due to the lack of winter sport teams but possibly only until the NHL comes.

I also wonder if the Clink is too big for it? Could be cavernous depending on the interest level or require a severe amount of tarps. It's one thing to sit in the freezing cold of winter for hawks games where the standard is the best of the best.

Another for what would be lower division football in an empty stadium.

The name Dragons took some getting used to, though. Sonics, Seahawks, Sounders, and Mariners are relatively unique and totally Seattle. Dragons, on the other hand, could just as easily have been used by any of the other seven teams. But if we pull off a sweet looking uniform design, I think I can tolerate it.

Yep, the new Seattle Dragons logo instantly reminded of that Sonics logo, which I've always liked, so

To a lesser extent, was also reminded of the now-defunct World League / NFL Europe team Barcelona Dragons. (The logo looks SO SIMILAR! No, not because of the logo.)

All those are a Orange color and not red.some of the images enhanced it more then others.

I suppose it lends itself to the phrase "Here there be Dragons."

I'm surprised they picked only one market without an NFL team. I know they're not directly competing with them, but I still think interest would be higher in non-NFL markets, of which many are viable. I'm Washingtonian through and through, but why not Portland instead of Seattle? San Diego instead of Los Angeles? San Antonio instead of Houston or Dallas? Orlando instead of Tampa?

So XLF games are to begin in February 2020. Originally slated for January but I think they pushed it back. Either way, that's a heck of a fast-track schedule to get 40 players X 8 teams + coach/front office personnel all assembled at least a month or two prior to give them time for all needed preparations, training, and practices!

I've heard the players will be paid less than the cfl pays. I just dont see how that's possible.

Our assigned quarterback has been named: Brandon Silvers out of Troy U where he broke Sam Bradford's freshman record for completion percentage. So now we have an NFL QB and an XFL QB with a 70% completion percentage. Sounds like yesterday was his first time ever in Seattle.

Don't know if Dragons would have picked Christine Michael, but St. Louis snagged him immediately before our pick. We then selected RB Trey Williams. And then in the second round, another RB -- Kenneth Farrow. LOL.

Interesting that even though all teams were assigned a QB before the draft commenced, Houston used their first pick to get another quarterback.

To gain possession of a loose ball that has been caught, intercepted, or recovered, a player (a) must have complete control of the ball with his hands or arms and (b) have both feet or any other part of his body, other than his hands, completely on the ground inbounds, and, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, perform any act common to the game. It is not necessary that he commit such an act, provided that he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so. This rule applies in the field of play, at the sideline, and in the end zone.

Rationale

Catches in the NFL are often up to debate because of timing and control of the football. By simplifying the rules that establish control of the football, we are creating easier ways for officials to determine when a catch is made. When interviewing over 100 players on their opinion, players often said “A catch is made with your hands, not your feet.”

XFL Rule

After a touchdown, the team has the option of running a play from the 2, 5, or 10-yard line, worth 1, 2, or 3 points respectively. The team must run an offensive play and no kicking plays are allowed.

Current NFL Rule

In the NFL, teams can elect whether to go for a kicked extra point or go for a 2-point conversion.

Rationale

The NFL has a near automatic play with its extra-point kick. The XFL has created excitement by replacing a kick with a play from scrimmage. To provide even more excitement, we have added the opportunity for a 3-point play, which means that an 18-point deficit is still a two-possession game. Fans have told the XFL that the 3-point play creates more strategy and innovation for the coaches.

Should be interesting. I like a lot of their rules on paper, we’ll see how it works in games.
