What the hell are people talking about? Still have a great chance at the playoffs why would you bench Geno? I don't even like Geno but he's played well and as long as we're in the hunt it makes zero sense to bench him.
Seattles best interest is in the future and not this year. Lose both games is best scenario. Starting lock is to see what he’s got in case Geno is expensive. Making the playoffs is a waste at this point.

Like the regular season, the play offs are merely a vehicle to the super bowl. If you think Geno is going to take this team and win a championship, then you turn a blind eye to Lock. Absolutely. But if you don't see that happening then why not see what else we have @ the QB position before the 23 draft?

To be clear...the goal would be to win with Lock. So if you call that "tanking", I admit to not knowing the definition of the word.

Many are saying "Pete chose Geno because he believed him to be the better QB". Is that what happened...or did Lock get hurt after Pete raving about him and demanding to get him in the Wilson trade? Geno got the hot hand and that sealed Lock's fate. But who has the hotter hand now and possibly going forward? That's what i want to know.

This isn't some radical concept and it certainly wouldn't be the first time a back up was brought in to be gauged against the starter. Merry Christmas to you all.

I had the same thoughts in the 2011 when the Seahawks made the playoffs at 7-9. Looking back eventhough we had little to no shot at the SB it turned out to be invaluable experience for the young guys.

Plus you never know when the next Beastquake type play is gonna happen. I'd hate to miss out on that because you wanted to see what Drew Lock has.

Geno hasn't been playing bad enough to get benched. I think the main issue is the offense has went away from what was working earlier in the season. It's devolved into the Russell Wilson special style. Lots of long developing plays, we've abandoned the rhythm passing that we established earlier in the year. Geno is looking more and more like Wilson back there trying to buy time with his legs. The usage of TE's and the 13 personal, Where the hell did that go? That was a staple earlier in the year.

haha, it will only happen if he has a nagging injury, it looks like they somehow do have an outside shot at the playoffs, I think they can muster a win in the playoffs if thay make it, I am a Geno fan, but I think like many they're missing a handful of game changing bodies on the defense and lines.

The idea of Geno and Pete getting a shot next year is inticing because of the draft capital, so much sexy draft capital, mmmmm.

If we somehow are disqualified next week, I'm for letting Drew get a look in the final game.

Lock is next year and he’s only a backup caliber quarterback anyways. They need a center and a guard and D line. Draft Carter or Anderson and then O line after that. Knowing Pete we’ll probably go running back and then trade back for another project with criminal tendencies

Why is everyone interpreting playing Lock a couple games as "benching" Geno instead of helping Lock develop into what we want him to be and preserving Geno's health for better times?

If the packers lose the game tokay or next week, the commanders lose next week to the Browns, and we win against Jets we’re in it for week 17. And both the commanders and Jets have major quarterback turmoil that only softens their hands.

If we are Eliminated by Week 18, then go ahead and play Drew for curiosity and evaluation. But until elimination happens, or Injury, there’s little sense in introducing qb turmoil.

No doubt it's a waste for YOU, but it sure as hell ISN'T a "Waste" for the players who ARE leaving it all on the field to secure a place on THIS or some other team next year.
I don't get this throw them all to the dogs attitude.
It's a damned good thing that a bunch of y'all ain't Head Coachin' a Pro-Football team.

It’s pro sports sir, no quarter given. I am definitely still behind Geno Smith, I love how much he cares, and he is talented, he has what it takes if he keeps his nose down to remain a top 5 qb and win it all, it will be another incredibly interesting off-season… but we ain’t there yet. I think fans just want to know what the direction of the team is, but alas, we pay money and watch the games anyways :)

Losing is never in the “best interest”. Maybe in the NBA where a potential superstar being 1/5 of a starting lineup both offensively and defensively gives you a distinct advantage. Like when a player like LeBron James is available but only with the overall number 1pick.

The NFL is a completely different beast. There will be turnover on this roster to start the 2023 season. We don’t know who will be gone, who will be added or even how many from this years team will be gone.

A winning attitude and culture is cultivated. Intentionally tanking or losing does way more harm than good. Teach your team to win no matter how good or bad the talent is. EVERY player on this current Seahawks team wants to be on an NFL roster next season. Unless retirement is a determining factor. Every single player is doing their best to win games.

As soon as team management starts any kind of tanking, players would know. Let’s say Geno has been less than average all season and the preseason prognostications of the Seahawks needing to draft in the top 2 or 3 picks to get their QBOTF remained and the team decided to tank for draft position. What would that do to the psyche of Geno and every other starting player? That loser mentality would permeate through the entire team.

Like him or not, but Pete has created and sustained a culture of winning in Seattle. That culture of consistently winning is what Paul Allen wanted when he bought the team. If you were a fan of this team anytime prior to the 2000’s you know. Players get used to winning cultures as much as they get used to losing.

During the off-season of 2022 we fans were all clamoring for a QB to be picked up. I could list the names but it’s a long list and we basically all know. There were free agents, trade possibilities and the draft. None of those options were utilized. Instead, Geno was resigned along with Lock being a perceived throwin on the Wilson trade. We as fans along with the national media all figured the Seahawks would be vying for a top 3 pick with our own pick not Denver’s!

What we as fans didn’t know is what Pete and company did know. They watched Geno in practice every single day for 3 years heading into this season. They knew what they had in Geno. The rest of us could only guess. They have now had an entire offseason, preseason and close to a full season of practices to evaluate Lock.

Both Geno and Lock are free agents heading into 2023. We will know before the draft their feelings and assessments on both of these guys before the draft. No need to placate unknowledgeable fans with intentionally losing games to showcase a guy. It’s not like Lock is a rookie with no real game experience. They have seen him play in NFL games. They see him in practice. Very much the same as they did with Geno.

Everyone stop with the play Lock for a look crap. Making the playoffs is never a bad thing. Quite the opposite actually.

The gig is up with Smith. There is now tape and teams have/are adjusting. Smith isn't good enough to adapt to the adjustments teams have made let alone make his own adjustments and is one of the reasons the Hawks have lost 5 of their last 6 games.

As long as there is a playoff shot, you need your best players playing.
This.

We play balls to the wall until we are mathematically eliminated. I don't care if we have a 1 in 100 chance of winning the Super Bowl if we qualify for the playoffs, I still want to take that shot. Too many strange things have happened in the past not to.

But once we are eliminated, we should treat our remaining games, or in this case remaining game, like it's a preseason game, with the main goal being player evaluation. You still play to win, but you protect some of your valuable assets, like K9, from injury, and get some PT for those that you're going to need to make a decision on in the offseason.

I'm not saying he's the guy long term but he gives them the best chance to win the next two games.

There are a lot of keyboard cowboys posting in here who should stay far away from the keyboard unless they enjoy looking like fools.
Geno is still the man, Pete will tell us when it time to play lock, probably next preseason. Hopefully lock has learned a lot and has a great future for the hawks...

Just reiterating I believe a championship team can be built around Geno, and I like his game and gamesmanship.

People are right, it's not logical at this juncture, I'd prefer we make the playoffs and maybe get a win there, let the young guys feel that.

IF we're out this week, I want to see Lock next week. I am not a coach. :)
