In musical parlance, the LOB has always been the Sherman/Chancellor/Thomas trio with a CB2 and (sometimes) the primary nickel as the "backing band" and the backups as "session players".
The backing band's members come and go as do the session players, but the latter can also get bumped up to backing band status if their play warrants. But as long as the core trio stays the same, there's no reason to change the name.
