I want to start this off by saying, I have never once this season believed we were a true contender for the Super Bowl. I have been just enjoying each game as they come (some more than others).
A lot of talk lately has circled around whether or not we deserve the playoffs or whether or not we should try for better draft position. Most of these arguments are based on we have a bad defense and don't stand a chance in the playoffs (I do actually agree, but I digress).
The 2011 New York Giants show there can be exceptions to rules. They were a lot like we are this year. I believe they had a bottom of the league defense with a pretty good offense. They went 9-7, with a better road record than home record. At one point, they had a 4 game losing streak. Our worst streak ended at 3 games. Once they made the playoffs, they beat everyone, including the previously undefeated Patriots to win it all.
I'll repeat it for clarity, I understand that we are unlikely to repeat that feat, but don't we want to at least root for it to happen? Isn't that what being a fan is about, rooting for your team to win games, make the playoffs and see what you can do?
I hate to bring Russ into this, but WHY NOT US?
